What Separates Me and You

Chapter 530 A Madman

Lewis was stunned for a second. He then turned his gaze to the television and chuckled softly.

Mrs. Larson glanced at him hesitantly and left.

Lewis had spent the night on the sofa, but by morning, he had returned to his normal self. He went to the dining room for breakfast and took the medication Mrs. Larson had prepared for him.

He never took his medication when Josephine was around. Now that Josephine was gone, he started to behave.

Conrad arrived early and waited outside the villa for Lewis. When Conrad saw Lewis come out, he immediately approached and opened the car door. "Chairman Alvarez, are you going to the office today?"

"Yes."

Conrad remembered something else. "Oh, by the way, Mrs. Yale will be arriving in Elysium this afternoon."

They had contacted the Yale family, and Mrs. Yale had agreed to come. So, she flew directly from abroad to Elysium.

"Alright," Lewis responded.

Conrad opened his mouth to say something more. But he noticed Lewis staring at the two golden retrievers outside.

Conrad fell silent. He started the car and drove toward the company.

The journey was quiet, with some traffic along the way. As they approached the city center, Lewis suddenly spoke from the back seat, "Stop the car!"

His unexpected command startled Conrad. He quickly slammed on the brakes and pulled over to the side of the road.

As soon as the car halted, Lewis opened the door and quickly got out. He then headed toward the sidewalk.

Conrad hurriedly exited the car and followed him.

It wasn't until he got closer that he realized Lewis was chasing after an electric scooter.

In two or three steps, he caught up to the electric scooter. He grabbed the scooter from the back, forcing the rider to stop.

The rider was a young woman wearing a white helmet, a white sweater, and jeans. She had a petite figure, and Lewis' sudden grab nearly caused her to fall off the scooter.

However, Lewis reacted quickly and steadied her.

"What are you doing?" the young woman asked cautiously, eyeing him.

Right after she spoke, a trace of disappointment flickered in Lewis' eyes. "I'm sorry. I made a mistake."

The young woman scrutinized him with suspicion. He was quite handsome, but she hadn't expected him to be such a madman.

She got back on her electric scooter and drove away.

Lewis watched her until she disappeared into the crowd.

Conrad whispered, "Chairman Alvarez, let's go."

The girl's back had a resemblance to Josephine, especially the way she dressed. That explained why Lewis got so worked up.

As the girl left, his excitement turned to disappointment.

Lewis retracted his gaze and returned to the car.

Conrad drove the car in silence, but Lewis suddenly spoke again. "Conrad, I feel like she's still alive."

Conrad followed his lead and replied, "Yes, I feel the same way."

"Really?" Lewis' tone changed, and he stared fixedly at Conrad. He looked like a student eager for a response.

Conrad forced a smile. "Yes. I read somewhere before that our brains may subconsciously create a protective mechanism to avoid accepting the fact when our loved ones pass away..."

"Shut up!" Lewis interrupted him, and the temperature in the car instantly dropped several degrees.

Conrad instinctively shrank back and didn't dare to say another word.

Lewis continued to ignore him. Throughout the afternoon, he didn't speak to him at all.

When people came to Lewis for document signatures, he simply threw the documents out. During meetings, he sat in the conference room and silently observed the participants' discussions. He didn't say a word, leaving everyone feeling uneasy. They were afraid of making a mistake in their statements.

Rumors were circulating among the upper management that his wife had passed away. Although they didn't know whether it was true, the atmosphere in the company had become tense these past few days. All the employees were walking on eggshells.

Sophia noticed Sierra's face when they entered, and a hint of disgust flickered in her eyes.

She knew why Lewis had brought her mother here. Was she about to gain another sister?

"Ms. Yale, this is Chairman Alvarez," Conrad introduced.

Hannah Yale appeared quite young. Apart from some crow's feet at the corners of her eyes when she smiled, there were no visible wrinkles on her face.

As she entered, her gaze immediately fell on Lewis. She scrutinized him several times.

She stared straight at Lewis, and her lips curved into a smile. "Of course, I know Chairman Alvarez. There's probably no one who doesn't."

Their sudden arrival had startled Sierra. She quickly searched for a hat and mask to conceal herself. Only then did she turn her attention to Hannah. "Are you Sophia's mother?" Sierra asked.

Hannah shifted her gaze to Sierra's face, the smile on her face fading.

"Yes. Chairman Alvarez, you brought me directly to the hospital after I got off the plane. I suppose it's related to this young lady?"

Lewis remained silent.

Conrad chimed in, "That's correct, Ms. Yale. Please have a seat. We can discuss it further."

Sophia linked arms with Hannah as if she was scared her mother would get snatched away. They both sat on the couch.

"So, can we talk now?"

Conrad observed Lewis, who still appeared uninterested.

So Conrad continued, "Well, Ms. Woods was undergoing treatment previously. The hospital ran out of blood bags. The situation was critical, and Ms. King stepped forward ..."Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Conrad explained the situation in detail, and everyone listened quietly. Sierra's foster parents were also present. They listened with tears in their eyes. Perhaps they realized that the daughter they had raised for so many years was about to become someone else's daughter.

Conrad finished speaking in one breath. "So, Ms. Yale, Ms. Woods wishes to undergo a paternity test with you."

Surprisingly, Hannah remained composed throughout the explanation. She smiled faintly and said, "I think there's no need for that. I can assure you that Ms. Woods is not my daughter."
