Chapter 424
He reached for his phone, but just as his fingertips were about to make contact, Ava burst through the door, her face etched with urgency. "Sir, something's wrong with the missus. You should go check on her right away."
Everett's expression turned serious as he jumped up and hurried out of the study.
In the bedroom, Selena lay on the bed, her forehead glistening with sweat, her lovely features twisted in distress. She was murmuring frantically, caught in the grip of a nightmare.
He rushed over, gently placing his hand on her shoulder. "Selena, wake up..."
Up close, he could hear her fragmented whispers spilling out, repeating, "Don't come near, don't hurt my baby, please..."
"Everett, hurry... why aren't you here yet..."
"Save my baby, Everett, save our child!"
Each word was more heart-wrenching than the last, drenched in despair.
Everett felt a piercing ache in his chest, as if his heart were being squeezed. He imagined these were the words she couldn't say during the accident when she was pregnant with Mateo. She had wanted him to save their child, but she couldn't speak a word, only watch as they lost the baby.
He had thought that with the new pregnancy, the pain of losing Mateo had faded, but Selena always managed to bring him back to that deep guilt and regret. His voice was rough when he spoke again.
"Selena, wake up, it's only a nightmare! Everything will be alright once you wake up!"
He softly patted her sweat-damp cheek.
After a few moments, Selena slowly opened her eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling before her gaze drifted to Everett. The worry etched on his handsome face came into focus.
Suddenly, her breathing quickened, and she clutched his arms tightly. "The baby? Is the baby okay?"

Everett blinked, momentarily confused, but then realized the nightmare had disoriented her. She hadn't yet come back to reality.
"Selena, the baby is fine, safe and sound in your belly. Everything's okay, alright?"
Hearing this, Selena's hand moved gently to her stomach, and the panic in her eyes slowly subsided.
Her clothes and the sheets were
soaked through, so to keep her from catching a chill, Everett had Ava change the bedding while he carried
Selena to the bathroom, helping her freshen up and change into dry
pajamas.
He figured it was just a one-off incident, but over the next few nights, Selena kept getting trapped in nightmares. Even with Everett by her side, she couldn't sleep soundly, leading to many nights without rest.
In just a few days, her recently regained healthy glow vanished, replaced by a worn-out look.
Everett was already swamped with
work, but to make her feel safe, he adjusted to her sleep schedule. If she woke up from a nightmare, neither of them could fall back asleep. And with countless tasks during the day, even his strong physique was showing signs of weariness.
Last night, Selena mentioned a stomachache, so today Everett arranged for Dr. Carrillo to come by After checking on Selena, Dr. Carrillo glanced at Everett, who sat nearby, propping up his chin, unable to mask his exhaustion, and let out a sigh.
