Chapter 551
"I've lost my appetite and barely touch the milk." Although her morning sickness wasn't too bad, she just didn't feel like eating much. When hunger hit, she'd nibble on a biscuit, and that was pretty much it for the day.
"You can't keep doing this, you know. Even if you can't eat, at least drink some milk," Chelsea insisted as she opened the pack of the nutritional shake Manuel had sent over. She grabbed a cup and started preparing a shake for Eliza. "Remember, you're eating for two now." The shake had a strong flavor. Eliza felt a wave of nausea at the smell but managed to take a few sips. "I'll drink more later."
"Promise me you will."novelbin
Chelsea set the cup aside, and they sat across from each other, chatting a bit. Suddenly, Eliza's belly started acting up, and she felt intense movements from the baby. "Chelsea, I'm not feeling so great."
"What's wrong?" Chelsea's heart skipped a beat. She quickly got up from the sofa and gently supported Eliza. "Where's the pain?"
"My stomach... the baby's moving a lot. You have to... get me to the hospital," Eliza said, trying to push through the pain, her voice faint and shaky, struggling to stay upright.
Chelsea immediately called 911, her voice filled with urgency and fear. "We've got a pregnant woman here, she's in bad shape. Please, send help as fast as you can."
As they were about to leave, Chelsea noticed blood on Eliza's pants. "Elle, you're bleeding..." Chelsea's heart dropped. This was serious. "Hang in there, we're getting you to the hospital right now." Eliza was in so much pain she could barely speak, her eyes half-closed, looking vulnerable and fragile.
The ambulance arrived in no time, and the paramedics quickly and efficiently got her onto a stretcher, racing to the hospital.
Eliza slipped into unconsciousness.
Chelsea paced anxiously outside the emergency room. Just then, Caleb came out of the operating room nearby, having just finished a surgery.
He spotted Chelsea's frantic figure and stopped in his tracks, then hurried over. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
The sound of Caleb's voice jolted Chelsea as if she had been snapped out of a trance. Her entire body trembled. "Huh?"
"Are you waiting for a patient?" Caleb's eyes shifted to the glowing sign above the emergency room door. "Is it someone close to you?"
"Yes, it's Eliza, she replied, gripping Caleb's sleeve like it was her only hope, her voice quivering. "Dr. Caleb, your sister-in-law, she's... bleeding. You've got to save her, we can't lose her or the baby. Please, hurry"
Caleb was taken aback, trying to piece together the scrambled information. A baby? Bleeding? His eyes met Chelsea's tear-filled ones. "Don't worry, I'll go check on her."
Time seemed to crawl by.
Finally, the light above the emergency room went out. Chelsea rushed to the door as Caleb emerged first.
He took off his mask, his brow furrowed. "So, my sister-in-law... she's pregnant?"
Chelsea hesitated but realized there was no point in hiding it. "Yes."
"And the baby's father... is my brother?" Caleb asked, his confusion deepening. Chelsea nodded, admitting openly, "Yes, it's his."
"Did she not want the baby?" Caleb's question was laced with bewilderment.
Chelsea shook her head, puzzled at his assumption. "Of course not."
"Then why were there traces of abortion pills in her system?" Caleb's tone turned serious. As a doctor, he couldn't wrap his head around such an absurd situation. "The fetus is over five months old. Even if she didn't want the baby, she should've come to the hospital. Trying to handle it at home is incredibly dangerous. What were you thinking?"
