Chapter 38 Will you marry me? (1)
Vince texted me, but I didn't respond. He had no idea what was going on and would only question me later after hearing what someone else said. In that case, I didn't want to explain to him.
I put my phone under my pillow and then lay down on my bed and fell asleep.
Mom suddenly pushed my door open, waking me up. I saw Qiang Mo standing behind mom. As soon as I saw mom's expression, I knew that Qiang Mo must have told mom that I annulled my engagement to Zhiyu.
I propped herself up on one elbow and looked at them.
"Nance, Zhiyu was good to you. Why did you call off the engagement?" mom questioned me.
Looking at them, I didn't want to say anything.
I pursed my lips that were a little dry, pulled the blanket and just said, "I just don't want to get engaged."
My mom beat me through the blanket and blamed me. I wept aggrievedly under the blanket.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
The day I got engaged to Zhiyu, I didn't go. Mom begged me to go, but I was indifferent. I couldn't marry someone I didn't like again.
Without my presence at the engagement banquet, the Yin family became the laughing stock of Fu City. I didn't read the news on the inte, and just turned my phone off. I hid in my room, which was my only way to hide from reality.
I didn't know how long I stayed in my room when I was forced out of my room by mom.
All these days, mom blamed me. I knew she still cared about me and she just wanted me to marry a man who liked me.
The winter sun was warm and comforting. I sat in the sun and stroked my long, thick hair.
These days my phone was off. It was like I'd cut myself off from all contact with the outside world.
"Nance, there is your call." Mom came out onto the balcony and called.
"Who's calling?" I asked.
"A male voice sounds familiar, but I just can't remember who he is." mom's brow furrowed.
I still got up slowly, walked into the house, looked at the handset on the table, picked it up, "Hello?"
"It's me." Vince's familiar voice sounded in my ear. For some reason, when I heard his voice, I wanted to cry. "What's up?" I asked with feigned composure.
"I want to see you" he said. "I'll pick you up." then Vince hung up the phone.
"Who's calling?" Mom was suddenly standing behind me and asked.
I was silent, and Mom kept asking me with questions.
I went into my room, closed the door and sat on the edge of my dresser, looking at my pale face in the mirror.
"Am I the confident Nance?" I laughed bitterly. Now I was like a spiteful, abandoned woman.
I put on a light makeup to make myself look better. I didn't want to look bad in front of Vince.
When I turned my phone on, it was full of messages. After I just ignored all of them, I dialed Vince's cell phone. I told him not to pick me up at my house and to just meet me at the park near my house.

I opened the door and mom was standing outside, looking at me happily, "Zhiyu asked you out to meet him, right? You explain the engagement to him."
"Mom, I know" I glanced at my mother impatiently.
"Come back early. I'll make you some sticky rice and porridge in the evening" Mom looked at me and smiled.
I understood that mom wanted me to marry Zhiyu, but I can't. If I wanted to marry him, I would have gone to the engagement party.

Suddenly an abrupt cough sounded behind me. I turned around and saw Vince standing behind me.
Vince came up to stand side by side with me as I gazed ahead.
"Why didn't you go to the engagement party?" Vince asked softly.
I remained silent, closing my eyes to listen to the sound of the breeze whistling past my ears.
"If you don't like him, you shouldn't have accepted his proposal in the first place." Vince said.
