When They Beg, I Rise!

Chapter 17

Lemira straightened her back, knowing deep down that Evelina's father had saved her life. So, when Asher brought Evelina home, she didn't object. In fact, she treated Evelina as if she were her own sister.

However, as time went by, Lemira realized that Evelina was subtly stealing away her brothers' affection. That was why her relationship with Evelina had soured.

Lucian raised his voice in frustration, "Lemira, listen to yourself! Do you think we're doing all this to harm you? We just want you and Eve to get along. You can't even do this simple request? How long are you going to hold this grudge?" "I'm not holding any grudge."

As she heard Lucian's words, all the questions that had been bottled up inside her seemed pointless. She had tried explaining herself hysterically in the past, but it never changed anything. She didn't want to be swayed by her brothers' opinions anymore. Silently, Lemira packed her textbooks into her backpack from the coffee table. Glancing at her packed bag, she uttered in a low voice, "If there's nothing else, I'll head to my room."

Lucian, sitting on the couch, looked visibly distressed, "Lemira, if you agree to join the team now, we can forget what you did in the past."

Hearing this, Lemira couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity. All the things she had done in her past life seemed like a joke now. Without another word, she headed upstairs, her steps more determined than ever. Lucian, feeling agitated, lit up a cigarette.

The butler approached him, "Mr. Langston, if Ms. Langston isn't willing, then let it be. At least we have Ms. Sterling."

Lucian frowned, "It's not the same."

"Mr. Langston, I might be overstepping, but you've all been away, and since Ms. Langston returned, she hasn't asked about you. It's disheartening to see how cold she's become."

With a flick, Lucian extinguished his cigarette and drove away from the villa.

From upstairs, Lemira watched Lucian leave, thinking he probably headed to the training camp. After taking a shower and reviewing her notes once more, she was determined to leave this place behind.

Accidentally staying up till dawn, Lemira got everything ready in her backpack, got downstairs, grabbed a sandwich from the kitchen and rushed out the door.

Lucian was the first to come downstairs. He noticed Lemira's early departure and frowned, "She's up this early?"

"These past few days, Ms. Langston has been taking public transport, avoiding the chauffeured car ever since Ms. Sterling's discussion with you made her slightly late last Monday. She's been holding a grudge ever since and never taken the chauffeured car!" Lucian's expression turned complex.

Caspian walked over, "Is it worth it? Just for being almost late? Being such petty, who is she trying to impress?"

Alaric yawned, "Lucian, Lemira is just putting on a show to make you feel sorry for her. If you give in now, she'll only push harder in the future." Eventually, Lucian remained silent. He felt that Lemira needed to learn her lesson; he had given her a chance, but she had squandered it.

Evelina, overhearing the conversation, smiled before bouncing down the stairs, "Good morning, Lucian, Caspian, Alaric. Let's have breakfast together." Seeing Evelina's cheerful demeanor, Lucian felt his mood lighten. At least one sister was still on the right path.
