Chapter 39 Disobedient People Have to Be Punished

“Why did you rush back so early in the morning?” Avery dusted herself off before helping Josephine up.

Lewis glanced at the both of them before stopping his gaze at Josephine’s face. He ignored Avery and asked, “Where are you going?”

“What does it have to do with you? Her legs are hers, she can go anywhere she wants. She’s not your pet, does she have to report her every movement to you?” Avery interjected, sneering.

Lewis turned toward Avery, his tone flat, “Avery Green, don’t think you can keep challenging my patience because you have Tyler behind you.”

Avery scoffed, “Don’t bring him into every conversation. Come at me if you dare. You think I’m afraid of you?”

Lewis sneered, “There’s no competition with a dumb woman like you. Were you thinking of taking her away? If you weren’t Tyler’s sister, do you think you would stil! be alive right now?”

“Who are you calling dumb? You’re the d*bass!”

Lewis was fed up with Avery and grabbed Josephine, pulling her into the house.

Avery was indignant and chased after them, lashing out, “Lewis Alvarez, you stand right there! Do you think you’re all that? You’re just someone who climbed to your position through your mistress of a mother. You’re exactly like your father, raising a mistress…

Before she could finish her sentence, Lewis grabbed her by the throat, pinning her against the wall. As the back of her head hit the wall, Avery’s sight turned black, and the rest of her words went back down her throat. Her eyes met Lewis’ dark although he didn’t seem agitated, she felt uneasy.

gaze, and

Lewis’ mother wasn’t Robert Alvarez’s first wife, she was his second. When his mother brought him into the Alvarez household, Lewis was already four years old. That was why there were always rumors going around that Lewis was Robert’s illegitimate son, and that his mother got her place as a mistress. Even now, those rumors would be heard occasionally.

Josephine never thought Avery would say it to Lewis’ face. However, Lewis

chuckled. Gripping Avery’s neck, he said in a monotonously low voice, “You should feel lucky you’re a woman.”

Avery’s face had turned red from his tight grip. She wanted to retaliate, but she was unable to make a sound. Just as she was about to lose her breath, Lewis let go of her.

While Lewis did not hit women, he could kill them, and Avery had personally felt his urge to kill. It finally became apparent to her that she really would be dead if she weren’t Tyler’s sister.

Avery was a candid woman with a stubborn personality. She wasn’t like Sierra who was able to fake her actions, as her expressions would give her away. While Sierral was egotistic, she was aware of the boundaries she could push. Avery, on the other hand, would blurt out everything that was on her mind, and she would get away with it without needing to sugarcoat anything because she had the Green family name to back her up. However, having the Green family name didn’t seem to be useful against Lewis.

Josephine inwardly let out a sigh of relief after Lewis let go and motioned for Avery to leave.

After realizing she had said something that shouldn’t have been said, Avery could only glare at Lewis and remained silent. Who knew what he would do if she offended him again? After all, Avery was the same.

Lewis ignored her and pulled Josephine into the house.

The television was still on, and the advertisement playing on it echoed around the large living room, the disparity deafening. Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.

As Josephine was thrown onto the sofa, the anger that Lewis held back in front of Avery earlier came into full force. Josephine instinctively put her hand on her belly.

Lewis noticed, his pupils dilating. However, he still went for her neck, and in a low voice, asked, “Why didn’t you listen to me? Going around the world with her? Ha! Josephine Vance, haven’t I taught you enough for the past twenty years?”

Josephine’s eyes flickered slightly as she wondered how he found out. Then it suddenly dawned on her, when she woke up this morning, her phone was fully charged. He… He tampered with her phone. That explained his sudden appearance.

Josephine had trouble breathing, her face slowly turning red. She glared at the face hanging above her head as her eyes reddened.

Josephine was born with a set of innocent-looking eyes. She didn’t look adorable. The first impression she gave off was that of an innocent woman, especially with those deep eyes of hers. Whenever she was looking at someone, she looked tender and compassionate.

Her beauty was unreal. Lewis had once thought of different adjectives to describe her, and he found elf-like to be the most appropriate. Just like the elves from fairy tales, their relationship, in the end, was just a fairy tale.

That was why every time Lewis was faced with those eyes of hers; his anger, no matter how furious he was, would dissipate. To him, there was always a feeling that she would be kidnapped on the streets or would disappear with the wind.

Lewis suddenly smiled, his anger vanishing. However, Josephine thought that smile. of his was more frightening than his angry features.

Lewis continued, “However, she won’t have a chance to take you away anyways.”

Josephine’s pupils shrank in alarm, and she gestured in distress, “What are you going to do?”

“You will find out soon enough.”

He slowly released his grip on her neck, and as he met her gaze, his actions turned gentle again. “Disobedient people have to be punished.”

Josephine’s heart sank. She looked at Lewis motionlessly. Right then, it was like she didn’t recognize him anymore.

Lewis had calmed down, his anger earlier feeling like an illusion. He unbuttoned the top of his shirt, silent for a while before turning to Josephine. “Stay obediently at home.” With that, he left without a look back.

It was only after he left that Josephine relaxed, slumping onto the sofa. As she felt a burning pain in her arm, she sat up straight and pulled back her sleeves. Her skin. was grazed, and she wondered if Avery was injured.

Thinking about Avery and what Lewis just said, she hurriedly picked up her phone. However, when she thought of how Lewis had tampered with it, her fingers froze, and she was unable to type out anything.

In the end, she could only throw her phone on the sofa and cover her eyes, giving up.

Lewis had never shown his cruel side to her before, that was why she didn’t know what Lewis would do to Avery.

However, she soon found out.

That night, Josephine saw on the television news that an accident had occurred during Avery’s race. As she looked at the blurred pictures live on-screen, her eyes widened, and her body trembled uncontrollably.

During Avery’s race with those rich kids, on the way back, her car had plowed into

bystanders.

Avery…had killed someone.
