Chapter 1090
Chapter 1090
Corey did not care about future prospects and power,
All he wanted was to be a hermit at home, seeking redemption day after day, hoping that Sheena would forgive and stop hating him.
With the topic abruptly ending, neither spoke further as they entered the living room and sat on the sofa.
Barbara went to brew tea, leaving Sheena, Corey, and Anne alone.
Anne, with her curious gaze fixed on Corey, asked, “Mr. Corey, I heard you used to be the top pilot in Froania, and you had connections on both sides of the law. You were an impressive figure, but your voice sounded different from what I heard in the airport promotional video. What happened?”
Corey kept his gaze down, remaining silent.
Sheena naturally stepped in to explain, “As the head of the Lawson family, I punished him for some mistakes he made before. I made him kneel in the altar room, receiving twenty lashes every day and
reciting scriptures all night.”
Corey slightly furrowed his brow, glancing at Sheena’s expression.
Although he did not understand why she would take responsibility for the punishments he voluntarily endured before, he knew Sheena well enough to know that she must have her reasons.
Hence, he chose to remain silent, with no intention of arguing back.
Anne was stunned.
She glanced at Corey, who seemed to tacitly acknowledge the situation. Then, she looked at Sheena, whose expression was cruel and icy.
It was all very surreal.
“That sounds terrifying. What serious mistake did Mr. Corey make to receive such a punishment? Aren’t you siblings? Why would you punish him so harshly, like an enemy?”
Sheena pursed her red lips, about to respond, when Barbara arrived with freshly brewed green tea, setting
it on the table and pouring a cup for each person.
Seeing the tea, Sheena smoothly diverted the conversation, picking up her cup and warmly inviting Anne.
“Ms. Windsor, have some of Barbara’s green tea. I think it suits you best. Please, have some more.”
Anne picked up the cup of tea from the table, lightly blowing it before taking a sip.
“Mmm… this tea smells amazing, and it’s so refreshing, not at all overwhelming.”
Sheena finished her cup of tea with a smile. “I’m glad you like it.”
The living room fell into a brief silence for two minutes before Anne redirected the conversation back to
Corey.
“So, Mr. Corey’s legs are not in good shape because of kneeling? And his voice became hoarse from reading scriptures?”
Carey glanced at Sheena, not understanding why she would share family matters with an outsider, but he
still nodded in agreement.
“Yes,”
Anne appeared shocked and exclaimed, “Although it’s the Lawson family’s private matter, I’m still curious. Is the Lawson family’s discipline extremely strict?”
Sheena lifted her second cup of tea elegantly, blowing on it gently before answering in a calm tone, “The Lawson family as a whole is very easygoing. The so–called strictness is only directed at Corey.” Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Corey and Barbara were both puzzled, silently watching Sheena.
Anne also turned her gaze to Sheena, tilting her head in confusion. “Why? Mr. Corey is so outstanding. Why would you single him out?”
“The specific reasons are our family’s privacy, and it’s inconvenient to tell you.”
“Okay, I’ve overstepped,” Anne said, no longer pressing the issue, as she lowered her head in contemplation.
Sheena glanced at Anne, understanding her expression, and continued with a warm smile, “Which hotel are you staying at? Are you comfortable there? If you like Mountville, you can stay here during your time in Froania. I’ll make the arrangements for you.”
