The first time he set his eyes on her
“How was the visit, honey?” Betty walked into Tommy’s room to find Melissa tucking Tommy in bed.
“His grandfather was pleasant, he was more concerned with Tommy though but his ex-fiancee was there too.” She sat on the bed and took off her heels as she massaged her feet.
“I’m glad it went well. What was the lady doing there? Did she know Mark was taking you to meet his grandfather?”
“I don’t know aunt and honestly I don’t know if I can do this anymore. He wants us to get married but watching him with Sasha I don’t feel comfortable about it.” She said with a sigh.
“Why, what did he do?”
“Nothing, that’s the problem. She was there and he didn’t even question it. To top it all he had to drive her home. Maybe he wants this marriage so he can spite his grandfather. To him it’s another arranged marriage, the only difference is he got a bride for himself.”
“I don’t think so, maybe he was being polite. Before making any conclusion talk to him, and tell him how you feel. Good night, you better get some sleep dear.” She got up, kissed her on the head, tapped her shoulder then left the room.
“Good night aunt.”
Melissa changed her clothes and sat under the blanket in Tommy’s room waiting for Mark to get back, only to be woken up by soft lips kissing her cheeks.
“Wake up mum.” The sunlight from the window made it hard to keep her eyes closed as Tommy nudged her.
She had fallen asleep waiting for Mark to get back but she missed him. Mary took Tommy for breakfast while she went to her room to get ready for work.
Going down the staircase she met Mark, for a moment they stop, looking at each other from opposite directions. He was wearing the same clothes he had the previous night looking exhausted with his tie in his hand.
“Morning”
“Morning, I see you didn’t come back last night.”
“No, I had some matters to take care of.”
“Oh, okay.” She tried to pass but he stopped her.
“Grandfather was happy to see Tommy. He asked for him to stay at the Manson for some days so he can get to know him better and spend time with him.”
“No, you’re not taking my son from me.” She took two steps back to get away from him.
“What! It’s just for….”
“Tommy stays with me and we are leaving this house. If you can spend the night with her why don’t you go ahead and marry her? It’s not like you are madly in love with me anyway.”
“I don’t understand what you are upset about, Melissa.” He shook his head and every time he tried to get close she took a step back.
“Mark! You left this in the car. Sorry for the interruption. Morning Melissa.” James handed Mark his phone. “The German company has replied, they accepted our proposal. Guess we didn’t waste a night’s sleep for nothing.” He spoke glancing at her.
“Oh!” Melissa turned walking past James feeling embarrassed as she left the house without having breakfast.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Thanks, James. Go get some rest.”
“You should tell her you know.” He said placing his hand on Mark’s shoulder.
With a heavy sigh, Mark shook his head heading into his room.
Tagging his tie off, he got on the bed and closed his eyes. Lying there he thought of the time he saw Melissa.
That day he fell in love with her. The very first time he set his eyes on her. When they bumped into each other.
She was late for her orientation class in her first year at the university. Running along the corridor he collided with her, dropping the pile of books he was carrying from the library.
“I’m so sorry. I’m running late for my class.” She apologized, getting down to help but her friend stopped her pulling her away. “Sorry.” She said before turning her back.
On his knees picking up the scattered books, he watched her disappear down the corridor without looking back.
A few days later, he saw her in the park with a book in her hands. She looked as beautiful as she did the first time he saw her and when some guy tried to approach her, she rudely sent him away. It was admirable how she stood up for herself. Every time finding a quiet place in the park to study.
With her showing up every day, most of the evening’s Mark watched her sitting in the same spot while he took his dog Spark for a walk. He made sure his security team kept guys away from her not to interrupt her peaceful moment. And no one was allowed to court her or get close to her. But he always made sure to leave a rose flower on her desk or rocker.
He was in love with her but couldn’t stomach the courage to face and tell her. Afraid she would reject him.
On that night four years ago, he had just kicked Sasha out of his room. She had spiked his drink with the hope of getting him in bed to he had resisted her.
All he thought of was her. The woman he had been secretly in love with. And when he got the information that some men had taken her from the party, he left the room only for her to show up at his doorstep.
“Melissa!” Seeing her was like a breath of fresh air.
He thought of stopping her when she started ripping his clothes off but then he loved it. It was the one thing he had been dreaming of since the day he laid his eyes on her.
“Please help me.” Her plea was enough to drive him crazy.
As he took over placing her on the bed, he knew what they were doing was wrong but he couldn’t talk himself out of it. At that moment all he wanted was to make her his.
Tossing her through the night, he had planned to talk to her about their wild night and confess his feelings in the morning but she snuck out.
He heard when she woke up but choose not to stop her planning to look for her and talk about what had happened.
After not seeing her on campus for days, he went to the usual park to look for her but she had disappeared into thin air. Her college mate had not seen her either since that weekend. The day he planned to look for her in her apartment, he got a call from his dad. His mother was in bad health and she needed to see him urgently. Leaving for abroad, he assigned some of his best bodyguards to look for her but she was nowhere to be found, until when her picture and location were placed in front of him as a person of interest in a case they were investigating.
He had to do everything he could to keep her close when he found her again after all those years. He planned out every step to lure her in, which had worked perfectly. Now all he needed was time to make her fall in love with him.
Lying in bed Mark smiled then laughed out loud. Melissa was upset he didn’t come home. Which meant she must have been waiting for him last night.
“Wow, she must love me. How did I not see that?” He asked himself out loud.
Sitting up, he took his phone and dialed her number.
