Chapter 41
Chapter 41
Joslin hadn’t even met her daughter–in–law yet and didn’t want to lose her before that happened.
“Well, not really,” Jacob assured.
Both women sighed in relief, and Hestia patted her chest. “That scared me.”
Jacob grew speechless again.
Hestia resumed eating the cherries, praising, “These cherries are really sweet, even sweeter than the ones from our own orchard.”
Joslin joined in, eating and complimenting the cherries as well.
Jacob watched the women, speechless but not surprised. They
tw had always been worried about Logan’s marriage.
He decided to share this big news with them to ease their worries.
“Grandma, Aunt Joslin, since Lo is choosing to keep his marriage a secret, he must have his reasons. Right now, he’s pretending to be poor, claiming he works at a construction site. Lorraine plans to meet the family this weekend, so please make sure not to blow his cover,” Jacob explained.
Hestia almost choked on her cherry. After finally swallowing it, she asked, “Why would Logan hide his identity?”
“Because Lorraine doesn’t love him.”
Hestia was taken aback. Considering her granddaughter–in–law’s background, even though her family wasn’t poor, they couldn’t possibly compare to the Moores.
If Lorraine found out Logan’s true identity, she might ask for a divorce. Hestia trusted Logan’s judgment and believed Lorraine
wasn’t someone who sought higher status.
Logan had his own reason for hiding his identity and pretending to be poor, even going so far as to claim to be working at a construction This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
site.
“Alright. We’ll play along,” Hestia agreed.
Pretending to be poor wouldn’t be a problem for them. They had many workers and several houses built for them near the estate, so they could easily borrow one to make the act convincing.
However, Hestia wondered how Lorraine would react once she
learned the truth. She decided that once Logan returned, she would talk to him about winning Lorraine’s heart genuinely.
If they had a strong relationship and maybe even children of their own, Lorraine would be more likely to forgive Logan and stay with him after learning the truth.
“Jacob, have you eaten?” Joslin asked with concern. Jacob had
brought such great news that she wanted to make sure he was well-
fed.
“I’ve eaten, Aunt Joslin,” Jacob replied.
He enjoyed eating with Sonia. She was a foodie, so she wasn’t picky and would always eat with gusto. Her enthusiasm for food often improved his appetite. Seeing Sonia’s enjoyment, Jacob found hist meals more enjoyable. Without her around, he felt the food wasn’t as
tasty.
“Jacob, now that Logan is married, you should think about your own. future. You’re not getting any younger. You see your grandmother’s gray hair here? It’s fromh worrying about you and your cousins‘ marriages,” Joslin remarked.
Jacob’s expression remained stern, “Grandma, you should start with the second eldest now. Eldest to youngest, remember?”
“And don’t keep that cold expression on your face all the time. Who’d like you like that? Even I wouldn’t like you if I were a girl. You always. look like someone owes you money, Hestia teased him bluntly.
Jacob’s voice was cold. “Grandma, I have things to do. I’ll leave now.”
Without waiting for a response, he turned and left.
