Chapter 0256
Lottie POV
As I slowly approached, my eyes scanned Knox's features, searching for any hint that he might wrestle some control back from Havoc, who evidently had taken over. There was nothing; the wild, untamed look in his eyes told me that Havoc was firmly in charge. "And the red is a dead give away too." Sage sassed like now was the bloody time.
But despite Sage's less than helpful chatter, I knew that Knox wasn't returning and Havoc wasn't relinquishing control any time soon. But I relaxed somewhat because I had managed to calm him once before at the ball when the twins presented me as their mate; the memory burning the back of my brain giving me a flicker of hope that I could reach him again.
Extending my hand towards him as he lay on the floor, still bloodied and battered, I watched the bruises on his skin begin to heal slowly. Despite everything, I felt a wave of relief, knowing that at least his wolf was trying to mend the damage done to Knox's body. "What, is Kitty not good enough now?" I teased, trying to get his attention as he ignored my extended hand, his eyes scanning the room frantically, no doubt assessing the potential threats around him.
"We... he is worried about US," Sage remarked with a scoff, her mood evidently souring. She watched Havoc through my eyes with a mix of upset and betrayal, her presence tense.
"Let's try to keep things calm for now, for all our sakes." With a sigh, I whispered to her like one might a child who needed lulling. I could sense Sage's distress and the turmoil behind her anger, and it was crucial to maintain peace and not let emotions win. "I will if he will cut out the BS." she muttered aggressively.
"For goodness sake, Liam, help me," I groaned as I bent down, placing one hand on my swollen belly for balance as I reached out for my brother's support. A terrifying growl ripped from Knox's throat the moment Liam made contact with me, causing him to tense up beside me momentarily, an action that I couldn't help but smirk at, at least a little bit.
"No. He is my damn brother," I yapped back at Havoc, trying to remain calm as he continued to grumble low, his eyes still sizing up Liam with caution. Havoc lay sprawled on the floor, his movements sluggish and his speech slurred. I could tell he missed me deeply; his current emotional state was magnifying his usual boisterous demeanour into something more sad and self-destructive.novelbin
"What is wrong with him?" I asked Sage, annoyed by his unnecessary protectiveness. Havoc knew perfectly well who Liam, Adam, and Chase were there was no need for the dramatics and this sudden display of devotion.
"You can't smell it?" Sage laughed, her voice echoing in my head like wildfire. "He is hammered." The realisation hit me suddenly; the strong scent of alcohol that wafted from Havoc wasn't just from any drink-it must have been that notorious brew that Alpha Leigh imported in; it was rumoured to be potent enough to knock even the supernatural off their feet.
"Eyes on me, big fella," I commanded as Havoc continued to growl low as he watched Liam try to assist me. The crowd around us reacted with a mixture of gasps and winces, their bodies tensing as they watched the unfolding scene with bated breath. Some looked genuinely concerned for
or my safety. Despite their support, doubt crept into my mind. Was coming here a good idea? I wanted to believe that beneath the alcohol-induced aggression, the Havoc I knew and loved was still there, that despite his current state, he wouldn't harm me, but as his growl got louder, I started to doubt my judgement.
"Fuck off, Havoc. No one is buying your 'I am a hard man act," Liam snorted, his voice sharp enough to slice through the tense atmosphere. Even if it was a crock of shit, Liam was scared.. I could smell it.
"Not helpful," I retorted harshly, my
voice laced with both irritation and pain. I didn't need to look at Liam to sense the waves of disapproval radiating from him. I saw Havoc's eyes widen at Liam's approach, his body twisting on the floor as he tried to get closer to me. I shot Liam a warning glare before finally getting down on the sticky floor of the bar next to 'Knox'. Being this close to my once mate and father of my children was pulling at all my heartstrings as
I fought off tears I refused to shed in front of the man who was causing them to fall in the first place.
I settled on my knees and shuffled closer to Knox's body, I tried my best to ignore the sharp bits of wood and glass digging into my skin. The floor was coated with a grimy, sticky residue that clung to everything it touched. Each movement sent a fresh wave of pain through me as glass shards pressed deeper, but I pushed the discomfort aside-Sage roaring within me, urging me to be strong.
Havoc seemed to sense the whirlwind of emotions battling inside me. As Liam reached out to support me, his touch inadvertently caused a piece of glass to embed further into my leg. I couldn't hold back a cry of pain, and Havoc, misunderstanding, growled menacingly at Liam, thinking he was the cause of my distress.
"No." I bellowed protectively as panic flared within me, and I quickly raised my hand to calm Havoc down. "The only reason.I'm down here on this filthy floor is because you and Knox couldn't handle your liquor and got into a brawl," I snapped, anger flaring as pain and frustration took hold. Havoc's expression shifted to one of sadness and remorse, his aggressive stance softening as he
retreated slightly.
"Is Knox okay?" I asked softly, seeing Havoc calm a little. I kept my voice steady despite the tumult swirling within me. Right now, none of the chaos mattered-I needed to know they were okay. "Why does that matter?" Liam hissed, his tone dripping with annoyance.
I glared at him, my frustration evident.
"Who would you like to dance with, Liam? Knox or... Havoc?" The question was pointed, a clear challenge to his earlier indifference and a reminder of the threat we faced.
