Yvette glanced over in Shakira, a fine, envigente on her fee
She was pretty sure Shakira was packing after seeing her easily handle the Ortis family, something the whole department found challenging
Meanwhile, Xanthe, Rachel, and Larry watched with worried eye. If they weren't so far away. Xanthe might've rushed over to stop Shakira from falling into any traps set by whemers.
David shot a mocking look, at Shakira shrugged and replied with a layered smile, "Mr. Harris, maybe focus more on your
own team?"
David's face turned even darker.
Then George said. "Yeah, David, your team's task isn't easy either Better mind your own! Who knows, maybe Shakira will nail Virmo, and your team might not..." He left the sentence hanging, dripping with challenge. "Fine! Let's see if your toe's got skills or if mine's better!" David retorted, gritting his teeth.
The early meeting ended with a face-off between the two teams. As everyone dispersed, George approached Shakira, looking serious.
Though Shakira knew George defended her because of team loyalty, she still appreciated it. She hesitated about saying something formal to put him at ease.
But then he suddenly relaxed, looking ready to cry. He had been so tough earlier, now he seemed all timid. "Shakira, you've got to go all out for us! We can't let that jerk David look down on us." Shakira chuckled, "Alright, I'll work hard to nail the task."
George sighed, "Actually, it's okay if you can't complete it. You're the only intern on the team. I don't want to push you too hard. If we can find a suitable partner outside, that's fine too..." Shakira's eyes flashed. "Got it."
After some encouraging words from the other teammates, Xanthe, Rachel, and Larry finally came over. Xanthe said, "Shakira! You're even more impulsive than me now."
Xanthe was pacing anxiously. "Yvette only got here through connections. Even though we're annoyed, we shouldn't make it hard on ourselves."
Rachel, who was so worried she instinctively started using sign language, quickly switched to her reading pen. "Shakira, maybe we should talk to Mr. Gordon and ask for some leniency?"
Larry pursed his lips. "Since you've already made a promise during the meeting, backing out now would be worse than failing. We'll have to push through. I'll keep an eye out for any news on Virmo to help you." Seeing their concern, Shakira gave a warm smile. "Don't worry about me. I wouldn't have taken this on if I wasn't confident."
Xanthe's eyes lit up. "So, Shakira, you already had a plan?"
Shakira replied, "Well, sort of."
Xanthe sighed in relief. "See, I knew it. Even though you can't stand Yvette, you're not that irrational. Here I was worrying for nothing."
Shakira chuckled but then noticed the red veins in Xanthe's eyes and an unusual swelling at the corners. She frowned,
"Xanthe, were you crying last night?"
The other two turned their heads in unison. "What? Xanthe, what's wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
Xanthe immediately gave a guilty smile. "No, no, I just stayed up late reading a novel."
"No, you were crying." Shakira said firmly, "When Yvette and Berry betrayed you before, you looked just like this, only you were even more of a mess then."
Xanthe said, "Shakira, let's not bring up the dark past if we want to stay friends."
Shakira didn't say anything, but her gaze was locked on Xanthe
Xanthe knew Shakira had seen right through her. She sighed and confessed, "It's about my cousin Lucy. We had a big fallout yesterday."
Shakira didn't look surprised at all. Xanthe noticed and gave a self-deprecating smile. "Shakira, you're so smart. Did you already figure it out?"
"I haven't met her often, but I sensed something off," Shakira replied after a few moments of thought, "She feels like another Berry to me."
"Exactly!" Xanthe said, her face falling into disappointment and frustration, looking like a small, sad hamster. "I'm such a fool, always getting tricked by the same kind of backstabbers. I treated them like sisters, but to them, I'm just an ATM." Shakira said, "It's not your fault. They aren't worth your genuine care. Cutting ties with them is your gain. They might say they don't care, but deep down, they'll regret losing a friend like you."
Xanthe's eyes sparkled with unshed tears as she looked earnestly at Shakira. "Really? So, if you lost me, it would be a huge regret for you, right?"
Shakira raised an eyebrow and answered seriously, "Nope, since I don't need you as an ATM."
The blow left Xanthe completely stunned.
Shakira walked away with a mischievous smile on her lips. Rachel, worried that Xanthe might be deeply hurt, stood there in shock.
Before Rachel could come up with something comforting to say, Xanthe dashed over to Shakira and hooked her arm, suddenly lively as if she had a wagging tail.
Xanthe said, "I don't care! I'm sticking with Shakira no matter what. I know Shakira would never abandon her good friend."
Shakira stayed quiet, but with Xanthe goofing around, the two of them walked away together. Rachel still couldn't quite wrap her head around it.
Larry chuckled and explained, "Shakira's comment made it clear that her friendship with Xanthe has nothing to do with money."
Rachel finally understood and smiled, "Shakira is a tough cookie, but she's a soft-hearted friend."
They headed to the restaurant, and now that Xanthe had untangled her emotional mess, she had a great appetite and grandly treated everyone to lunch. Just as they sat down, they heard sycophantic voices not far off.
"Wow, Yvette, is that a limited-edition Constellation Diamond watch on your wrist?"
"It is! It's the one that had all the millionaires fighting over, worth millions, and not just buyable with money. Yvette, you're 15:48 Fri, Dec 6 GWG.

"Come on, think about who Yvette's boyfriend is. A couple of million is nothing; he can make that in minutes."

Blushing slightly under her colleagues' praise, Yvette explained, Actually, this isn't from Joe; it's my internship gift from my
parents.
"It's a family tradition. When we're out and about, we need to look presentable, and our attire needs to be worth over a million to match the Nelson family status.
"I thought wearing too much bling at work might be inappropriate, so I just wore the watch."
Her words left everyone awestruck again.
"Going out with attire worth over a million! I thought that was just a saying, but it's actually true and happening right here." "I've heard Yvette's family dotes on her like she's a real-life princess. She must've saved the galaxy in her past life!" "No kidding, with several brothers pampering her, you know this princess is really high-value. Honestly, reincarnation is an
art!"
"Yvette, does your family need another daughter? I can guard the door for you."
Yvette covered her mouth, laughing lightly, her eyes drifting towards Shakira's table nearby.novelbin
She smiled loftily and, with a tone dripping with subtle boasting, said, "Sorry, my parents think having just one daughter like me is enough."
