The fear that I felt today was something I never knew even existed until the moment I saw Sadie’s limp body in Rowan’s arms. We had just killed Ozzy’s men, with the ambush working just like we planned once we got Sadie and Mila’s location and text.
Vincent swiftly called Ozzy and said we would trade for Mila, knowing for a fact he would try to wipe us out in the process.. That’s the kind of man he was. So we came prepared..
We had to buy the girls’ time..We had to make this as easy for them as possible. All of us were hoping Ozzy would come to the handoff as well, but sadly, we weren’t so lucky. That’s when I knew we had to get to them. The feeling of Sadie’s panic coursed through our bond..we were close but not close enough. Hadeon wanted me to shift and go in there guns blazing, but I had to be smart about this. I knew that one wrong move could possibly ruin everything and put the girls in danger.
Then the crippling pain came. It felt like I was being stabbed in my abdomen, and I knew for a fact that it was Sadie.
Grandpa Scott held me back from jumping out of the moving car as he tried to calm me. My mate..my princess..she was in pain..she was hurt.
‘Somebody f*****g hurt our mate!’
Hadeon howled, his words louder than I had ever heard as they echoed through my mind.
We raced out of the SUV, the sight of Blake running into the building unfolding before our very eyes as I was quick to follow right behind.
That’s when my gaze landed on Rowan..his right eye closed shut and scarred badly. It looked as if he couldn’t open it and then I saw his red-stained hands holding my mate tightly..my Sadie..
Hot tears fell down my cheeks as I pulled her out of his arms, her abdomen blo*died with multiple g*shes across her stomach and side. Her skin was pale and her heart had a low rhythm that made my own fill with agony..this wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
She was supposed to run into my arms, her sweet voice would fill my head as she asked for me to forgive her for leaving without me..How could she leave without me..how could she get hurt like this? She was the toughest person I knew..she was the strongest and bravest. I dropped my head down, my nose burrowing into her thick strawberry curls as I inhaled her sweet scent.
“Why did you leave me..why.” I sobbed quietly, feeling a crushing sadness like never before as Francis our medic came up to her and began checking her vital signs. He gave her some type of shot for the pain and I could see her face visibly relaxing right before my eyes.
How much pain was she in? How much was she suffering? I could have prevented this..I was pissed..I was so mad at her for leaving without me..for risking her life like this. Doesn’t she realize she means everything to me now? That there is no life worth living without her?
After we learned Ozzy was still alive and Rowan had regained enough strength, we took Ozzy into our custody and threw him into the back of one of our cars. He was in pretty bad shape so the medic had to give him something to help aid the healing process..we needed this a*****e nice and healthy for what we wanted to do to him. I had so many ideas already.
I had Sadie wrapped up in a blanket, her brow furrowing slightly as I carried her into the car and held her in my arms tightly. I wasn’t letting her out of my sight again, not for one damn minute..that much I know.
Rowan and Blake joined us in the large SUV and I couldn’t help but study Rowan carefully..he looked like he had been through hell and back. His piercing gaze was glued onto Mila’s face as he bent down, kissing her forehead and brushing her hair back.
“Rowan..I’m..I’m sorry.” Blake whispered, his eyes darting from Rowan to Mila as I could see them red with tears.
Rowan didn’t even look up as he continued to hold Mila like she was the most precious thing in this world..I guess I knew how that was now..because I felt the same with my Princess.
“Blake..he would have done this no matter what. This goes beyond the rogue king.” He spoke cooly, his words surprising both Blake and I.
“What do you mean?” Blake asked carefully..not wanting to push Rowan right now, considering everything he had been through.
“We will talk about it later.” Rowan responded before bending over and placing his brow against Mila’s before shutting his eye. The medic was able to put some ointment and gauze on his hurt eye considering it healed so slowly that it became inflamed.
“Just know I don’t blame you, little brother..I never did once. This wasn’t your fault.” He added while getting more comfortable and resting with his mate in his arms.
Blake couldn’t stop the tears from rolling down his cheeks, making me reach over and squeeze his shoulder in a comforting motion. He has been blaming himself this whole damn time. He was afraid Rowan was going to be super pissed and hate him. So I could see the fear he had washed away with those tears he shed..this had been hard on all of us. f**k am I glad Rowan is back..I can’t deny the relief I felt knowing we have Ozzy with us now and there is no longer a threat.
“Did you kill Chloe?” Rowan suddenly asked, making my head snap up as I saw him looking at me from the corner of his eye.
“No, Mila did.” I explained, seeing a small smile play on his lips as he bent down, kissing her brow once more.
“Good girl” He whispered against her fair skin as I couldn’t help but smile as well. Mila has become quite the badass..that is for sure..and my mate..no one could ever live up to that. She is unlike any woman I have ever met.
“Mila and Sadie pretty much put us all to shame..that’s for sure.” Blake muttered, making a burst of laughter escape me, startling everyone including me.
It was quite comical though..how two people could take down a whole damn castle and save our Alpha while we sat our asses at home, worrying like mother hens. Quite pathetic to be honest…how the hell did we get so lucky with these two brave women?
“Did Grandpa Scott help them escape?” Rowan mumbled, sounding half asleep as he leaned his head against Mila once more.
“You already guessed it huh?” Blake responded, resting his head against the window as he glanced over at Rowan.
“Mhmm.” Rowan hummed, a soft smile pulling at his lips as he continued to rest his eyes.
Suddenly I felt Sadie moving in my arms, her head turning back and forth like she was trying to wale herself up.
“Hey, princess it’s okay..everything is okay now.” I whispered, my palm resting on the side of her face as she scrunched up her nose in the cutest way.
‘Tristan?’
Her beautiful voice entered my mind and I felt Hadeon finally relax for the first time in days.
‘I’m right here princess..you are safe now. Mila and Rowan are safe.’
I informed her, feeling her calm immediately from my words.
‘Tristan..I’m..I’m so sorry..please don’t be mad..it was the only way..’
She began and I quickly placed soft gentle k****s against her cheeks and lips in response, showing her I wasn’t mad as those aqua-colored eyes finally fluttered open.
‘Right now I’m just happy you are okay..that’s all that matters to me..you are all that matters to me.’
I linked to her, watching as her eyes spilled over with tears, making me bend down and k**s them away just as fast as they came.
“Welcome back Sade, I’m so glad you are okay.” Blake said while reaching back and finding her hand before squeezing it. She smiled up at him, her big eyes gleaming as she turned her head further to look at Rowan and Mila.
‘Is she okay?’
Sadie asked worriedly while trying to get up, the sudden motion causing her to wince as the blanket almost fell off of her naked body, making me hold it up for her.
‘She is fine, the medic thinks she was injected with a sedative.’
I informed her as she peeked down at her stomach.
‘Rowan said you jumped out the window and landed in the glass..’
I couldn’t help but look at her in a stern way, making her smile sheepishly as she shuffled on my lap, trying to get more comfortable.
‘Come here, I want to hold you close, princess.’
I spoke softly, my arms wrapping around her as Blake suddenly threw a spare t-shirt back at us. I helped Sadie slip it on and pulled her back into my chest, placing my chin on top of her head as she nuzzled into me and inhaled deeply.
‘Princess..you are the bravest, strongest, and most resilient person I have ever met..but please for goddess sake..never do something like that again..I don’t think my heart can take it.’
I linked carefully, trying not to seem mad but meaning every damn word.
‘I won’t, my love.. I promise.’
Let’s hope there’s never a reason for her to have to break that promise..because I never want to go through something like that again..that much I know.
