Sweet Revenge: Jace & Emerald

Chapter 27

“What are you doing here?” Esther asked as soon as she saw Emerald.

“I am going to come back when you’re not busy.” young Morgan replied instead of answering the woman. ‘So, you really love her, huh?’ she thought before she turned and was about to close the door, but Jace stopped her.

“What is it?” he asked,

“I want to discuss something with you,” Emerald replied casually. She didn’t want to appear affected by Esther, although something in her wanted to pull her hair.

“What are you going to discuss with him? No matter what you do, Jace will never like you. He didn’t like you before; he will never like you now and even in the future.”

“He’s all yours. I don’t pick up trash I already throw.” Emerald replied arrogantly, making Jace clench his jaw. He was hurt, but he ignored her since he knew he was at fault.

“You can leave now, Esther,” he told the woman, causing her eyes to widen. “Now,” he added when he noticed that Esther was just looking at him.

“Fine,” the woman replied and started to walk to the door, glaring at Emerald, who was raising her brow.

“Please close the door,” Jace said when he saw her coming closer,

“No need, I won’t take lo-”

“Just close the door,” Jace insisted, so she did. “What is it about?” he asked when she stood before his table.

“This.”

“What about that?” Jace asked without looking at the folder.

“You have to look at it to know.” Jace took the folder and opened it.

“What’s wrong with these? They are all beautiful.”

“Yeah, seeing women almost naked is beautiful for you, but not for me. I already told you that I don’t like heroes and heroines who look like they were selling their bodies to the gamers.”

“It’s just a game, Emerald!” Jace shouted.

“I don’t care!” Emerald shouted back just as Kyle entered the office.

“What’s going on?” he asked, confused. Looking at the two who were having a staring contest.

“I’ve made myself clear about this, Jace. If you want MY team to be at your will, just say it, and I will leave my office. I will happily sit in my office at ACEGame and wait for you to launch the game yourself.”

“It’s the trend, Emerald,” Jace insisted.

“I don’t follow trends, Jace. But I will not be a stumbling block to your dream; I will let you handle the project.” Emerald said and turned her back.

“Wait, what?” Kyle said, looking at Jace and trying to stop Emerald from leaving. “Can we talk about this first?” he asked.

“Do you have a say in this company?” Emerald asked him instead so he looked at Jace who was massaging his temple. “I thought so.” Emerald said, “So if you please, let me go.”

“Fine!” Jace chimed in, making the two look at him. “I never thought that you were so childish.”

“What?” Emerald asked, “I’m not childish!”

“Then what do you call that? We are supposed to talk about our problem, but you want to leave?”

“Didn’t we already discuss this from the very beginning?”

“Still, if you are mature enough, you should have asked for a discussion. I just told you what I think and what was trending.”

“Wait, can you two stop already?” Kyle said, stopping Emerald from butting in. “We were just starting, and I’m sure it will take months to finish this project. Are you going to act that way until then?”

“Tell that to your boss,” Emerald said. “I am going home and will be back on Monday. Think about whether you let me handle this project or not. Either way, it doesn’t matter to me,” she added, continuing to turn her back at them.

“What was that all about, Jace?” Kyle asked after the office door closed.

“What?”

“What do you mean, what? Why is she angry?”

“Because of this,” Jace replied, pointing to the folder on his table. Kyle took it and looked at it.

“You know that she didn’t like things like this. Why did you have to insist?” Kyle asked frustratedly.

“So she will come to me.”

“Seriously?”Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

“Yeah, what’s wrong with wanting to see her?”

“At the expense of our work? What if she decides to leave? What are you going to do about it?”

“She won’t.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“Because she’s responsible. She will never do anything that she knows will jeopardize her work. We lived under one roof for a year, although I had no idea she was good in this field.” Kyle shook his head in disbelief. He didn’t know what he would do to his friend, who aimed to win his wife back while messing up with her.

Meanwhile, Emerald was on her way to her office to get her bag and went home, but she found her cell phone ringing as soon as she arrived. “Yes, Daryl?” she asked,

“Finally, I’ve been calling you.” her assistant replied.

“Why, what’s wrong?” Emerald asked worriedly.

“I already made an appointment with your father.”

“Really? When?”

“On Saturday.”

“Did you tell him what we want?”

“Yes. He said that he would think about it, but he’s interested. He asked me if I was sure about the investment.”

“And what did you say?”

“Of course, I made it appear hesitant, but I told him about growing the grocery store even more.”

“That’s good,” she replied.

“Are you going to meet your father?”

“No, let Elise talk to him. She’ll know what to do,” Emerald replied, and after a few more instructions, they ended the call. Emerald sat in her chair and started thinking about her family. For a long time, she wanted them to accept and treat her as part of their family. But until she left Jace, no one sided with her. They still thought that she was a jinx when, through her, young Higginson agreed to invest in their business.

Emerald closed her eyes. She couldn’t help but remember how her father pushed her away when she needed him and how her parents pointed all the blame at her whenever something bad happened in their family.

***

It’s your fault!” Merly shouted, pointing her finger at the seven-year-old Emerald playing with her doll while crying. She didn’t know what she did when she was in their house doing household chores with her nanny, Lucy. “Because of you, I lost in mahjong!”

“Ma’am Merly, the child has nothing to do with your game,” Lucy said. She always took Emerald’s side, and every time she would say something, Merly couldn’t refute it. “Go on, dear. Continue playing; your Mom is tired, so you have to understand her if she gets mad at you, okay?”

Young Emerald nodded in agreement even though she didn’t understand why her mother was always mad at her whenever she was tired, just like her nanny said, but never at her sister. At such a young age, young Morgan learned to always understand others because of her nanny, Lucy.

There was also an incident when Emerson came home from work drunk. Merly was so angry that she yelled at her husband and kept on saying Emerald’s name was the reason for his drunkenness.

Emerald didn’t remember her parents buying her anything. Everything she owned was Emerose old things. Thanks to her nanny, she experienced something new whenever Lucy received her salary.

When Morgan started attending school, Lucy also bought her things. There was an incident when she heard, “You’re going to send Emerald to school, or I am going to the police.” Lucy warned Emerson and Merly.

“Don’t threaten us!” Mrs. Morgan said angrily. Young Morgan saw how her mother’s eyes widened as if her eyeballs would pop out. She was hiding behind the open door and got curious about the yelling she heard from her father’s mini-office at home.

“I am not threatening you. I am telling you that I have evidence and the agreement we signed.” Lucy insisted. Emerald didn’t know what they were talking about, but she did understand that it was something bad because of the police. The Morgan couple didn’t say anything until Lucy left the room.

***

‘What is it that nanny was holding against them that she could threaten them like that?’ Emerald asked herself after she opened her eyes. ‘Yes, I need to find out what it was about.’ Then she got up and decided to go home.
