Chapter 15
Placing my palms over the wall I push my body behind as I keep a wide step back immediately, I stare at the ground not daring to look at him ” I’m sorry,” my apology comes out as a mere whisper, I brush my index finger over my lips when the scene which happened few seconds ago flashes in my mind.
Urgh… that was my first kiss
“I got to hurry,” turning around I walk away quickly feeling awkward of the whole situation the most embarrassing part is that my cheeks began to heat up a little.
Oh God what will he think about me?… I should explain. I should explain him as soon as possible.
Grumbling to myself I reach the way of Mount Tian quickly not realising that I’ve walked a long way as my mind was completely distracted. Taking a deep breath in I walk up to the mountain, I decided not to take the street way as it is crowded therefore walking in the woods is the only way. Hiding behind a huge a tree I remove the coat which I wore over my black outfit, folding the dress I insert it into my black cloak , taking the piece of cloth from my picket I tie it around my face below my eyes.
“Finally, I’m going to find you,” running to the gate which is around the isolated house in this mountain I get in through the broken wooden gate which is not closed.
The sound of my knuckles knocking on the wooden door could be heard clearly in the surrounding of where the crumbling of leaves and blazing of trees only can be heard. Losing my patience level I knock hard on the door as there was no reply for a long time, I let out a sigh of relief when I hear foot steps and finally someone pulls the door open and there comes a man who might be in his early thirties.
“Are you doctor ZongHua?,” I ask as soon as the door is wide open.
“No, I’m his student. May I know who are you?,” He asks furrowing his eyebrows.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
“I came to meet Doctor ZongHua,” answering him instantly I look around inside standing at the doorway “I just want to talk to him,” I plead.
“May I know your name I’ll ask for his permission,” he requests politely passing me a genuine smile.
“I’m WenLing’s family,”
“I’ll be back,” closing the door he gets back in leaving me out making me feel the cool breeze on the hot day.
After few minutes which seemed like ages the door finally opens and the same person welcomes me in, I gaze around the one piece house where many shelves and stands are attached to the wooden wall with many bottles and jars arranged on it.
“Doctor ZongHua,” I call looking at the old man who is seated on the bed, walking towards him I stop in front of him.
“You are?,” He asks in his weak voice pointing at me.
Removing the cloth which is over my face I show him myself as I pass him a smile “I’m WenLing’s child,” I inform and cover my face again.
“You look like him my child,” he smiles looking at me in joy.
“Do you know about my father,” my voice cracks when his face displays in front of my eyes.
“He was someone who gave up the position of being the general and became an officer,” he stares at an empty space like thinking ” Duke Ling always spoke about his wife,” he lets out a laugh in joy in way of remembering those days ” May God grant him heaven,” he prays.
Turning around I walk to the corner watching the things arranged all over “How did he die?,” I ask trying to make sure that my voice doesn’t sound weak but it did when the image of my five year old self playing with him comes into my mind.
“They killed him,” he replies furiously where anger could be sensed clearly in his weak voice.
Walking ahead I take up a jar which is placed on the shelf examining the details in it. “Who?,” I ask calmly.
“I don’t know who?,” I turn around to look at him “I travelled with him everywhere, the last journey we went was when he wanted to arrest the salt smugglers, he ordered me to leave when a bunch people came on our way out of nowhere,” he gazes at me his eyes showing what he is feeling right now ” And I did only to fulfil his order to give this letter to Mrs Qin,” getting up from the bed slowly he takes the mildewed envelope from his student. I walk towards him curiously my inner self being anxious to know what’s written by my father but all my thoughts sank when the door is slammed open and a group of people walked in.
“Take him away,” I order his student and look straight at the gang of men who seems familiar, keeping a step forward I kick the chabudai table which is placed at the centre of the house, holding the table up with my feet vertically I kick it hard to their direction which makes it fall on them.
Taking the wooden chair I hit on the stomach of the person who approached me, holding the wooden leg of the broken chair I fight them trying my best not let anyone close to Doctor.
I keep a step back to catch my breath, taking a deep breath I let it out looking at the men who are on the ground getting up and standing together, their groans filling the room. A smile makes it’s way on my lips when I watch them taking their daggers out.
“You all are dead,” I scoff smiling sarcastically noticing their priceless expression, keeping a step forward I gesture them to come over with my eyes a smirk fixed on my face but it drops instantly when the sound of the muddy boots footsteps gets into my ears, my opponents turn to their right and I do it and there walks in the person with the same outfit as mine.
The one I saw that night.
Running to the crowd in a blink of an eye he fights them and I do it too. Holding the right arm of the man in which he is holding the dagger I kick his leg making him fall over the floor and turn around to look at Doctor
ZongHou’s student who is trying to fight the man attacking him. Before I could rush over there the man pushes him aside, grabs the envelope from Doctor’s hand and stabs him with his dagger.
Everything happened so fast that it was difficult to react to it.
“Take care of him,” I rush out following them as they escape taking the letter, running out I try to stop them but I was too late as they were too fast to leave.
“Arrrrghhhh,” grunting aloud I run my hands through my hair furiously, scooting down I pull my hair out of it’s roots angrily, closing my eyes trying to think who they as they look familiar.
Yes, it’s the gang who gambles down the street. I’m going to find out what I need to know today.
