Reckless Marriage Unyielding Love

Chapter 182

Mikayla was used to hearing people address her as Mrs. Ludwig. Giving Josiah a nod, she strutted into the office building with a click of her heels. Punch in, hop on the elevator, arrive at her floor, slide into her department-Mikayla oozed confidence and calmness as she strolled into the workspace. "Drop by my spot!" Mikayla commanded as she loomed over Maxius's desk.

"Totally!" Maxius shut the files, trailing Mikayla into her office.

Quinnlyn handed two coffees and quickly slipped away.

Firing up her computer, Mikayla prodded Maxius, "What's your take on the next computer gig we're backing?"

Chilling at the desk, Maxius spilled, "Considering the demand in the market, I say we go all out. Our new product groundwork is solid, and after testing, my faith in our product is sky-high."

"Right on. Once our product starts flying off the shelves, those manufacturers might hike up prices. That's one concern," Mikayla chimed in. Price changes in the middle of the game could be a headache.

"And if there's a shortage, production could get delayed, easily pushing back by a week," Maxius pitched in.

Both flashed knowing grins. Mikayla was genuinely happy with the unspoken bond she shared with Maxius at work. Finding a work buddy whose vibe syncs with yours isn't a cakewalk, either at work or in everyday life. It's frustrating having to explain things half the day only to hit a wall of misunderstanding.

"I'm vibing with our new products, too. I'll figure a way to sway the chairman and the board," Mikayla said, mustering a smile, stifling a yawn the next moment.

"Chill with the grind! Look after yourself!" Maxius noted, his eyes gleaming with genuine care.

Mikayla sheepishly smiled, sipped her coffee to mask her true thoughts. God knew it wasn't work that was keeping her from resting. "Sure thing," she nonchalantly replied.

Right after that, Mikayla went back to her usual work vibe, yanking out a folder from the clutter on her desk. "Here's a fresh promotion plan that Eric and I whipped up after Mr. Rogers's feedback last time. Thumbs through it. Any bright ideas?"

Maxius took the plan from Mikayla, cracked it open, and pored over every detail. "Super detailed, but it feels like something's still missing."

"Just a plan gig won't light up the town, huh? If we aim to amp up by thirty percent, this ain't cutting it," Mikayla said what she observed straightforwardly. She wasn't one for slacking off at work. She knew she had room for improvement and hoped to tackle the gaps with others.

Maxius met her eyes. "Spot on."

"We're on the same page. Let's dig deep during the next pow-wow and juice up everyone's ideas!" Mikayla's smile danced on her lips.

Maxius studied Mikayla. At 24, she breezed through work dramas, calling the shots effortlessly. It was like she'd been in the grind for ages. It blew his mind. She was built for the hustle. Her future shine was unstoppable. "I'm out," he said, stepping away.

"Rock on!" Mikayla chimed, and then tossed in a "Thanks, Maxius" with a nod. Maxius was a gem, skills and vision-wise. Having him as her right- hand was selling him short. He could totally hold his own.

"When it's chow time, just round us up for a feast!" Memory of the media spinning their last cozy dinner made him tweak his words from "me" to "us". "No skimping on that victory spread!" She flashed a grin, her face radiating in the dappled sunlight streaming through the tall windows. She sure had an undeniable charm.

Maxius grinned, shut the door behind him.

Mikayla dove into the stack of files Quinnlyn had set out that morning. Quinnlyn arranged things smartly, slotting files by priorities. So with her help, everything just clicked better.

Not too long after, a knock echoed through the office. Mikayla tore her gaze from the screen, eyebrows knitting.

"Mikayla!" Huxley barged in, ignoring Quinnlyn's objections, and bypassing Mikayla's nod he just swung the door wide. The bandage on Huxley's head was gone, his bangs masking the scar on his forehead. Though he looked kind of dainty, his personality was a whole other deal.

"You can split, Quinnlyn," Mikayla said, tossing Quinnlyn a dismissive nod.

Quinnlyn peeped at Huxley, nodded at Mikayla, and then jetted out.

"What's good?" Mikayla didn't clock Huxley much. Once Quinnlyn jetted, she zapped her focus back to the screen, fingers skating over the keys.

"Just clocked in at Salvatore Group,

so swung by for a formal hi!" Huxley stressed "formal" in his tone. Watching Mikayla brush him off at her desk stirred up his anger. If. weren't for his family breathing down his neck about workplace decorum, he'd consider shouting at her. He scoffed inside, 'How dare she ice me out? Who does she think she is?'

"No need to lay it on thick with greetings. You're over in the product department HR should've filled you in." Mikayla kept her cool,

poker-faced. She wasn't vibing with Huxley, her cousin. Despite everything, he clung to his high and mighty vibe. Their upbringing didn't sink in one bit. Content bélongs to Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

"Just popped by for a special holler at my ex boss..." Huxley's words were deliberate.

"Half the A.M.'s flew by. You really wanna kill minutes chilling here?" Mikayla scoped the clock in the corner of her screen, not down to spill time and energy on Huxley. Any second wasted now meant clocking extra hours later. Huxley wasn't worth the grind.

"Mikayla, mark my words! Salvatore

Group's my turf, Your hustle's just paving my road!" With that, Huxley swished out, giving the door a good slam. Unfazed by curious glances, he smoothed out his coat. He thought with confidence, 'Salvatore Group is etched in his future! Those against me will rue the day! Mikayla included. When I hold all the cards, that'd be the day she hit the road!'
