Psycho Boss And His Sassy Secretary

Chapter 26

Later in Evelyn’s house

“Skylar, I want to ask you a question. I want you to be sincere with your answer,” Evelyn finally breaks the silence, after stalling for a long time.

Evelyn is in the living room with her cousin, Skylar. They are watching a soap opera, even though Evelyn’s mind is not focused on the show they are watching. She is busy thinking about what happened during the day. About how her boss left her house angrily, after seeing her cousin. It is obvious that both of them know each other before and she is curious about it.

She wishes that she had given her boss to apologize or probably, a chance to give her an explanation. But, she messed it up. Or rather, he spoiled everything by saying that narcissistic statement. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.

“You should be happy,”

Imagine someone who is apologizing, telling her trash. Her boss is indeed a clown.

“What do you want to ask me?” Skylar’s voice jolts her out of her train of thought.

“How did you know my boss, Jayden Turner?” She asks her.

Skylar lifts her shoulder in a half-shrug, tucking a lock of her hair behind her hair.”I don’t know, “She pauses.

“You know what, ask him. He should be in a better position to tell you or whatever, ” She blurts out.

“You are my cousin, Skylar. I want you to tell me what happened. We are families and even friends. We shouldn’t hide things from each other, right?”Evelyn tries to convince her.

“Evelyn, I don’t know what to tell you. Well, we attended the same college.” She utters.

“Is that all?” Evelyn queries her.

She takes a deep breath.”I guess. We dated for a while, though. Anyway, it is just crazy stuff. The relationship was complicated, “She opens up, turning back to the soap opera showing on the television.

“Do you guys – ”

Skylar cut off her words.”I don’t have anything to say anymore, Evelyn. Sorry,” She says bluntly.

Evelyn nods her head in the affirmative.”Don’t worry. It is okay,” She mumbles.

So many things run through Evelyn’s mind. Her cousin and her boss had dated before. Even if they were once in a relationship, that doesn’t mean that Jayden should have reacted in that manner when he saw his ex-girlfriend. Perhaps, the relationship ended badly. As Skylar said, it was complicated. Maybe that is the reason Jayden wasn’t so happy to see her cousin.

Something in her mind tells her that there is still more to it. Jayden may be an arrogant and inconsiderate boss, but he is highly sensible and not immature.

Even if their relationship was complicated, Jayden wouldn’t have acted that way when he saw Skylar. There is surely another thing that her smart-ass cousin is not telling her.

Evelyn steals a glance at her cousin, then faces the television shrugging off her thoughts.

“Good night, Evelyn,” Skylar suddenly says and stands up from her seat.

Evelyn stares at her in shock. She knows her cousin. She is a movie freak. Why is she going to sleep then?

“So soon. The show is still going on, ” Evelyn tells her.

The corners of Skylar’s mouth tugged upwards.”Well, I want to do a live video in my room. Or, should I do it here?”

“No,” It came out as a snap. “You can do anything in your room, not here, please. I don’t want to feature in your video. Good night, beautiful cousin,”

“Whatever! My room is better for the live video though, “Skylar mumbles under her breath and leaves the living room.

Evelyn watches till her cousin disappears from her gaze. How will someone be so obsessed with social media? Her cousin, Skylar doesn’t have anything else on her mind, except Instagram, Tiktok, etc.

Whatever happens between her boss and her cousin, she is going to find out soon.

Evelyn’s office, next day

“Come to my office now,” Jayden orders his secretary from the phone, his voice resounding in her head.

A line appears between Evelyn’s brows.”Why?” She blurts out.

“Is that question really necessary, Evelyn Jones? Have you forgotten that I’m the CEO of Turner Industries?” His boss queries her.

“You don’t have to remind me about your position in this company. It is glued to my head like my boyfriend’s date of birth.” She says sarcastically.

Jayden turns silent for a while. Evelyn wonders if he cut the connection of the call. But that is not the case, he is still on the line.

“Stop bringing your boyfriend or Morris Anthony to our conversations. I hate it, honestly.” He rambles. “Anyway, come to my office now.”

Before she can protest or mutter any word, he hangs up the call which irritates her. He doesn’t even let her protest like fun. What kind of person is he?

Evelyn breathes in. She closes her laptop and is about to stand up from her seat when the door. She beams a smile when she sees that it is her friend, Marina.

She notices the tote bag and the bouquet of flowers Marina brings along to her office.

“What is that?” Evelyn asks, pointing at the bag.

Marina smirks. “Well, it is for you,” She replies.

Evelyn narrowed her eyes.”How?”

“I was in the receptionist’s section when I saw someone hand over this bag to one of the receptionists. You know, I am an inquisitive person. I checked the note attached to the bouquet of flowers, and I found that it is for you. So, I volunteered to bring it here for you. I am a good friend, right?” Marina explains.

Evelyn chuckles softly.”Thank you, baby. Trust me, I’ll teach you how to dance on your wedding day. For free.” She vows.

Marina smiles back at her.”As if you know how to dance. Anyway, check the note before I go back to my duty.” She says hurriedly.

Evelyn opens the note and reads the content aloud:

“Hey, my pretty princess. I am sorry for not calling you, since all these days. I have been so busy. Accepting the flowers means you accept my apology. Anyway, I want to invite you to a night party which will take place at Hunt mansion tonight. A beautiful gown for a beautiful lady like you is inside the tote bag. Please, accept my invitation.

Morris Anthony.”

“Wow!” Marina exclaims.”I am sure that you will accept the invitation, ”

Evelyn shrugs, even though she is still going to accept the invitation.”I will think about it, anyway, ”

She continues.”I am going to Mr. Jayden’s office, he needs my attention. You should also go back to your office. We will talk later,”

“Sure. You have to gist about your crush, Morris Anthony, “Marina says, giving her a wink.

Both of them leave the office at the same time. Marina goes to her office, while Evelyn goes to the CEO’s office.

“Why did it take you so long to come here, Evelyn?” Jayden asks her when she is in his office.

“I was busy,” She replies. “Why do you need my attention? I need to get back to work, ”

“Well, are you busy tonight?”

Her brows furrow.”Not really. Hope you’re not planning to send me an errand?” She blurts out.

He smiles but the smile quickly disappears from his face.”I want you to follow me to a night party. The one that is going to take place in Hunt mansion.”

Her mouth falls open.”Sir?”

“I know you will refuse to accompany me to the night party. So, I will have to use my authority as your boss.” He pauses, letting his words sink into her head.

He clears her throat, staring into her eyes.”As my secretary, you must accompany me to the night party. I will take you to the mall later, you will get a beautiful outfit for yourself. Bills on me, though. Do you understand?”

“In the contract given to me before I started working in this company, it was stated that my work time ends by 8pm. Hence, you don’t have any authority, this time around,” She utters confidently.

Jayden closes his eyes for a second, running his hands through his hair.”Okay. Will you accompany me or not?”

“I don’t know. Excuse me, I have to return to my work,”

She doesn’t wait for his permission, she runs out of his office.

Seems like she is stuck between going to the night party with Morris Anthony or Jayden Turner.

One is her crush while the other is her boss. One asks romantically while the other wants to choose his authority over her, if not for her smartness.

Now, who will she accompany to the night party?
