Chapter 28 Happy Life(2)
After spending a week locked up in a hotel we paid Evan a visit, ready to take Matthew home with us again. To our surprise, Evan and Zoey had prepared a welcome back dinner for us. Brandon and his girlfriend Sacha were there along with my dad and Max. It was thoughtful and made me cry. Zoey pushed past Nick and wrapped her arms around me, pulling me in for a hug.
“You’re so silly.” She laughed, “It’s what you do for family, right?”
I loved that she kept reminding me about us being family. Zoey was probably the best thing that could happen to Evan, she completed him. She also fitted in perfectly, keeping our group together. Pulling away Zoey headed to the kitchen and called over her shoulder.
“Come to help me move everything to the table, Em.”
Brushing my tears away I followed after her, letting Nick settle in. Of course, Nick immediately took Matthew in his arms and smothered him with hugs and kisses. While on our honeymoon we had received tons of pictures from Evan and Zoey. Apparently, our little boy didn’t miss us at all. He had the time of his life with them. He also entertained his grandfather and uncle. I was glad dad was still around to witness Matthew grow up. Just the thought made me want to cry again, but Zoey scolded me.
“No more tears, please.” She told me firmly, “You’re getting soft on us, Emily. According to Evan you were fierce and always told Nick off. Challenging him. I need that Emily back, she sounds freaking amazing.”
“I guess marriage and babies do this to you,” I told Zoey, taking hold of the last bowl and putting it on the dining table.
“Let’s eat, guys” Zoey exclaimed cheerfully.
Nick sat down beside me with Matthew in his arms, the little boy was moving around beating his little fists against his dad’s chest. When he spotted me he immediately reached for my hair, but I quickly moved, sticking my tongue out to him which made Matthew laugh like it was the most hilarious thing in the world.Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Aren’t you a silly little thing.” I moved closer to him and kissed his chubby cheek, “I’ve missed you.”
Nick met my gaze, “It actually hurts knowing he didn’t miss us at all.”
I laughed, “Yes, it just proves that Evan and Zoey take good care of him.”
“We just kept him busy.” Evan told us, “Going around town, doing some shopping and showing him the touristy places. Also having dinner with his grandfather and uncle.”
I glanced at my father, “I’m sorry we weren’t around.”
He brushed it off though, “Don’t worry about that. Matthew was good company.”
Nick leaned closer to me, pressing a kiss to my temple, “Apparently no one missed us.” He whispered, but loud enough for everyone at the table to hear.
Dinner was amazing and it seemed awfully short. Around ten we went home, putting Matthew to bed. I let Nick read Matthew a bedtime story while I unpacked and then got ready for bed. Once showered and dressed in comfy sleepwear I slipped under the covers and waited for Nick to join me. My eyes felt heavy and I felt myself drifting away when Nick joined me, kissing my temple.
“Thank you, Em.”
I wasn’t too far gone to realize his words were out of place, “For what?” I asked confused, rolling to my side to face him.
“For giving me everything.” He whispered as he gently brushed my hair back, “I knew when I first saw you, being all sassy and flashing me-”
I laughed and playfully slapped his shoulder, “I didn’t do that on purpose!”
He covered my mouth with his hand and continued, “That I’d build a future with you.” I licked his hand which made him raise an eyebrow at me while he pulled away, “If you want to play all you have to do is ask.”
“You didn’t know that when you first met me, you liar.” I reached under the covers, placing my hands against his firm chest, “You were worried about your company and along the way, you were thinking about banging me.”
He laughed quietly, shaking his head at me, “Always so crude, Em.”
I reached lower and pressed my hand against his growing erection, “Well, you’re the one who makes me behave like this.”
He rolled me onto my back and hovered over me, “You aren’t wrong I did fantasize about spreading your legs and taking you, but I’m not lying about me knowing we’d eventually end up here.”
“In bed?” I asked which made him playfully nip my lower lip.
“You’re the worst.” He smirked at me, “You know what I mean.”
I cupped his face, the playfulness fading away, “I know what you mean, Nick. I was highly attracted to you, but along the way, I also knew that you were it for me.”
His eyes heated as he heard me say that, he leaned in and kissed me. Before I could react he pulled away and brushed his thumb over my lips.
“So? You’d admit that marriage isn’t the most awful thing in the world?”
Smiling I playfully bit onto his finger, “I’ll admit that I was wrong. Thank you for never giving up on me.”
He grinned down at me, reached for my hands and linked our fingers together while he pushed them against the mattress.
“Since we’ve set that straight, how about we focus on other things?”
I wrapped my leg around his firm butt and pulled him closer to me, turned on by the intense look in his blue eyes.
“Sounds good to me,” I whispered, leaning in to kiss him.
He was about to kiss me back when a squeal made Nick press his forehead against mine and sigh tiredly, “Maybe we should have done two weeks instead?”
I laughed, “You think?” Pushing against his chest, I made him roll off me, “Go see what he needs.”
Nick sat up and playfully glared at me, “Bossing me around now, are we?”
“You know what they say, happy wife, happy life.”
He laughed and leaned in pressing a kiss to my temple before jumping out of bed and walking to the door. He glanced over his shoulder and met my gaze.
“I love you, Em.”
Smiling I sat up, “I love you too, Nick.”
He walked out and left the door ajar while I laid back down, grinning like an idiot as I stared up at the ceiling. I didn’t regret a thing when it came to Nick. He completed me. He always told me how I was his obsession, but I didn’t think it was true. Nick loved me, but he loved everyone around him. Cared deeply about his friends and family. It was me who was obsessed with him. I couldn’t imagine not having him in my life. Thankfully it was something I never had to think off. Nick was all mine and he let me know it every day.
