Chapter 7
During the weekend, Alex brought Sonia to the party.
Candice was not overly concerned but she bumped into Alex when she left the house in the afternoon.
He wore a simple shirt with the collar opened, exposing his collar bones and they looked tempting.
Coincidentally, Candice wore a black dress, which was the same color as Alex’s shirt. In addition to his simple design, they had matching outfits like a couple.
Candice paused for a moment. She looked blank when she asked, “Going to the party now?”
Alex hummed a reply. It sounded plain as if he was uninterested.
The elevator stopped on the first floor and Candice walked out first.
She had a dinner date with Lisa, the unlucky secretary who got fired a while ago.
When Lisa was fired, Candice wanted to talk to Alex about it but did not have the chance.
Candice met up with Lisa at a Japanese restaurant.
Lisa opened up to her and complained about how unlucky she was. She only lectured Sonia for a bit when the latter did not finish her work, and the next thing she knew, she was given the letter.
Candice said, “That girl is Alex’s precious baby now. You stepped on her tail, of course you’d end up hurt.”
Lisa was upset and confused. “What did Mr. Elysian see in her?”
She felt bad for Candice as well. “I heard Mr. Elysian is training her too.”
Everyone in Aether Corporation knew how much Candice had done for the company–she worked hard and devoted her life to it. Whenever Alex wanted a particular client, Candice would secure the client by hook or by crook.
Candice sipped her green tea in silence.
Employees in Aether said that Sonia would be her replacement, but she begged to differ.
Alex groomed her himself since she was eighteen. From the ignorant young girl to the confident and masterful woman that she was now, Alex trained her every

Sonia was different. She was like a tiny pot of flowers in his hand that he would water every day.
He asked Candice to help her and brought her to all kinds of important social events just to give her the exposure. He had been doing quite a lot to train her but the girl still underperformed.
After parting ways with Lisa, Candice was about to head home when she received a call from Alex.
The man sounded rushed, “Dorrington Hospital. Come here now.”
When Candice arrived at the hospital, Alex’s hand was already in a bandage.
Sonia was beside him, frightened and teary.
Candice went up to the man and asked with furrowed brows, “What happened? I thought you went to the party?”
Alex was sitting in the emergency room, looking pale. “We got into a car crash. The other guy is still here.”
“I’ll settle the procedures.”
Candice then looked at Sonia beside the man. She asked out of concern, “Are you hurt?”
Sonia noticed the dress Candice wore, which strikingly matched Alex. She was slightly stunned and her eyes teared up even more. She snorted and shook her head. “I’m fine. Mr. Elysian’s wrist is hurt.”
Her eyes were fixated on Candice’s dress. Her lips moved but no words were uttered.
Candice saw every expression on the girl’s face and said nothing either.
She went to look for the driver who caused the accident and negotiated with him.
After dealing with all the necessary procedures, Candice went to the convenience store outside the hospital to buy two bottles of water and a pack of wet tissues.
She noticed Alex’s cracked lips.
When she returned with the things, Alex was resting with his eyes closed. She was wondering if she should wake him.
“Candice.”
Someone nudged her elbow. It was Sonia. Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

She said, “You can leave the water with me. When Mr. Elysian wakes up, I’ll give it to him.”
She tried her best to sound gentle and kind yet her smile felt forced and her eyes were still fixated on Candice’s dress.
