CHAPTER 42
CHAPTER 42
Summer Frost POV
“You should take over my business soon, Summer. How about engagement party on the same day as your appointment as the new managing director of my business?‘ I tossed on the bed for the umpteenth time as those words replayed in my head. The look on Mr. Miller’s face that day showed his desperation to get me married to Hunter.
“You are not getting any younger. You should settle down. Hunter is a good man, and he’ll help you take care of the kids as their dad” He was right, but sadly, I didn’t have feelings for Hunter, and I couldn’t allow him to father my kids since their Dad was still alive.
Talking about Xander, I reached for my phone and scrolled through it, hoping to see his call or text, but sadly, I got none. Why was I even expecting a text
from him?
“Get a grip on yourself, Summer,” I muttered and dropped my phone on the bed. Since it was Sunday today, I had no appointment, so I was just going to stay at home all day with my kids.
The knock on my door caught my at
attention.
“Good morning, ma’am. Breakfast is ready,” Came Chloe’s voice from outside.
“Alright. Where are the kids?”
“They are waiting for you at the dining room,”
“Alright. I’ll join you guys shortly,” I heard her receding footsteps

迪
I’m sorry, darlings. Did I keep you waiting?” I whined as I pulled out a chair and sat down, We had seen each other earlier this morning, so there wasn’t need to exchange greetings again.
“No, Mom,” Jake shook
hook his head, and I smiled.
“Let me serve your food,” I stood up, dished their food, and we began eating.
“Mommy, are we going out today?”
7” Jack broke the silence, and I looked at him.
“Not really. I was thinking we should spend some time together at home. What do you think?”
“Alright, Mommy. Should we play games later then?” He suggested, and I nodded affirmatively.
We took our time to finish the meal, and when we were done, we cleared the table together since they insisted they wanted to help.
“You should get some rest, boys. Mommy has something to take care of. We will play games when I’m done,” I ruffled their hair, and they nodded. I headed to my room after they left for their room.
My phone started to ring as soon as I walked inside, and I quickly checked it, hoping to see that it was Xander, but waves of disappointment spurred through me v when I saw that it was Miguel. Why the fuck do I want a call from Xander so badly? I must be out of my mind.
“Yes?” I held the phone to my ear after i swiped the answer button.

“Ma’am, there is an emergency. One of the patients you had an appointment with tomorrow, her guardian just called and complained that the condition worsened. I think the surgery needs to be done right away.” I closed my eyes and sighed deeply. It seems like I could never make plans for myself, because in the end, my work always make its own plan for me.
“Alright. Pick me up. I’ll be waiting for you,”
“Alright, ma’am. I’ll be there shortly.” The call disconnected, and | tossed my phone on the bed. I didn’t want to disappoint my kids yet again, but this patient’s life was more important than any other thing, and I needed to save him or her,
“We can make up for it some other time,” With that in mind, I went ahead to change my dress since I already bathed early in the morning.
I was fixing my wristwatch around my ankle when I got a text from Miguel saying that he arrived and was waiting for me at the parking lot.
I sauntered out of my room after I picked up my handbag
“Chloe… Please explain to the kids that I have to step out for an emergency. I’ll make it up to them,” I told Chloe when I arrived at the living room.
“You should play the games with them if they’ll allow it,”
“Yes, ma’am, I’ll do that.”
Stepping out of the house, I spotted Miguel leaning against the car, but he quickly opened the backseat and waited as I approached the car.
He bowed slightly as I hopped in the car, and after he closed the door, he hopped in the driver’s seat and the ride began.
“What is the patient’s diagnosis and his or her condition?” I was supposed to operate on three patients tomorrow, so I had no idea which of them was shifted to today.
“Mr. Douglas Donaldson,” He didn’t need to explain everything in details for me to know the man’s diagnosis. They had booked an appointment with me for a couple of months, but we have been postponing it since I was busy all this while. I guess his condition worsened and it couldn’t wait any longer.
The ride to the hospital was smooth and brief since there was no traffic jam.
“You’re welcome, Ms. Summer. This way, please,” Doctor James, the owner of the hospital came to welcome me with a warm smile before he led me down the walkway while I trailed behind him.
The surgery was complicated as it was second stage of spine cancer, but thankfully, I was able to pull through it and it was a success.
“Thank you so m
you so much, Ms. Summer. It’s good working with you,” Doctor James was impressed after everything was over.
“You’re welcome. I need to go now. I have things to take care of,” I shook hands with him before I left for the parking lot with Miguel
“Congratulations for the successful surgery, ma’am,” Miguel looked at me briefly through the rearview mirror with a small smile on his face.
“Thank you. Let’s go home,” Even though the time was far gone, I was still hoping to spend the remaining hours before nightfall with my kids.
“Yes, ma’am,” He started the car and the ride home
