Her Return, His Regret

Chapter 18~ Justice

Chapter 18- Justice

"Lora, you came just in time, dinner is almost ready," Freya Davis, Lora's mother, said the moment Lora walked into the mansion. Lora smiled and replied, "I'm so lucky, can't wait to have dinner."

She had been working overtime to finish the design on time, so she had asked her parents to pick up the kids from school.

"Mommy, you're back!" Ella threw herself into her mother's arms and Ethan did the same.

"Hey, my sweethearts," Lora hugged her two children and a warm smile crossed her lips.

Whenever she saw her children, her heart felt at rest.

"How was your new school? Do you like it?"

"It's the best school!" Ethan replied with a serious expression. "Don't worry about us, Mommy. We are well taken care of by grandma and grandpa and the teachers at school are so kind." Lora let out a sigh of relief. She had been worried her children would get bullied at school but luckily, all

went well.

Looking at her parents, Lora remarked, "Thank you so much, Mom and Dad."

"You don't need to thank us. You're our daughter," Freya replied.

Jack nodded and said, "That's right... we are family and family should be there for each other."

Lora smiled and her eyes glinted with joy.

The family went to the dining area and sat down for dinner. As they ate, the atmosphere was filled with so much warmth and happiness.

"Mommy, how was work?" Ethan suddenly asked and silence fell over the table.

Jack glanced at his daughter, waiting for her answer since she had not gotten back to him after signing the contract with the Kingsley group.

Lora sighed and replied, "Work was ok but I'll be busy in the next few days."

Jack shared a look with his wife before looking at Lora and said, "That's good."

"Does that mean you will be coming late all the time? Is your boss bullying you?" Ella asked innocently.

"Ella, Mommy is the boss," Ethan corrected and the adults laughed.

"That's right! Your Mommy is the boss and can't be bullied!" Jack exclaimed.

"I also want to be a boss like Mommy," Ella stated.

"You will when you grow up. Eat your food before it gets cold," Freya said.

"Ok, Grandma!" Ella exclaimed and dug into her food.

After a pleasant dinner, Jack glanced at Lora and suggested, "Let's talk in my study."

Chapter 18- Justice

Lora knew what her father wanted to talk about, so she looked at the kids and instructed, "Be good. Mommy is going to chat with Grandma and Grandpa." "Ok, Mommy," Ethan replied.

When the adults went into the study, Jack sighed. He looked at Lora and asked, "Are you sure about working with Ryan Kingsley?"

Lora nodded and responded, "Dad, don't worry. Ryan doesn't know who I am because he saw the warehouse blow up. He thinks I died six years ago. So, don't think it's going to be a problem."

"He doesn't know who you are but you know who you are, honey. You still have memories of your sad past. I don't think this is a good idea. I was already against you returning to the city that holds painful memories for you," Freya said, her heart aching for her daughter. When they found Lora six years ago, she fell into depression at the thought of how Ryan chose to save another woman instead of her.

Watching her daughter suffer because of a man was heartbreaking and she didn't want history to repeat itself.

Lora smiled and her heart felt warm. She glanced at her mother and replied, "Mom, don't worry. I won't let anyone hurt me ever again. Since I took over from Dad, eded someone to shut the board members up and the Kingsley group was a good choice." "Ok, but if you can't handle this, let me know. Your mother, uncle and I have enough shares to secure your position-"

"Dad, don't worry. I want to prove to the board members that I can do this. If you help me out, they will keep finding reasons to bully me and kick me out eventually," Lora told her father.

Jack sighed, knowing that Lora was right. He responded, "Your mother and I will always support you. I know you can handle any difficulties but just know that with us around, you don't need to suffer and put yourself through tough times." Lora smiled, her heart feeling warm. She said, "I know and I'm so glad I have parents like you."

Meanwhile, Ethan returned to the bedroom and his eyes turned cold. He had gone to fetch Ella a glass of juice when he overheard the conversation between his mother and grandparents.

"Ethan, what is it? Why do you look so angry?" Ella asked as she got the glass of juice from him.

Ethan scoffed. He said, "It turns out that Ryan Kingsley is our Daddy."

Ella's eyes widened before they lit up. "Are you sure? He's our Daddy?" Ethan nodded and replied, "He is."

"Yay! The handsome uncle turns out to be our daddy!" Ella said happily

"Ella, do not be happy so soon. He may be our Daddy but why isn't he with Mommy? Did he abandon Mommy to be with another woman?" Ethan commented.

Ella's eyes turned sad. "That's sad. I feel sorry for Mommy."

"That woman Ivy Williams stole our Daddy from Mommy! We have to punish her!" Ethan declared.

What Ethan didn't tell Ella was that he also heard something about a warehouse and an explosion. Although he didn't know what happened back then, Ethan had a gut feeling that it was something that hurt his mother a lot.

He wasn't going to tell Ella about the explosion, he wanted his sister to be innocent and suffer less. He will investigate the explosion himself.

Listening to Ethan's declaration, Ella looked serious and nodded, "Yes! We need to get justice for Mommy!"
