Chapter 1121
Chapter 1121 When Did You Return?
In the first twenty-two years of Alivia's life, the most handsome man she had ever seen was Bert. It wasn't that she hadn't seen other good-looking men, but she believed that men in their thirties had a temperament that was unparalleled by boys in their twenties, a temperament precipitated by life experience.
It wasn't about appearance or looks. The aura emanating from within was truly captivating for a man.
She had met Evelyn before and knew about the relationship between Evelyn and Bert. She was initially surprised by Evelyn's strong self-control and her indifference to Bert's attention. However, after meeting Huston, she understood.
If Bert's presence was like a sharp, outward cold aura, then Huston's was a quiet distance that could not be ignored. Indeed, people who exude strong energy are always eye-catching, but those who are restrained often intrigue more. Yet this man was so indifferent, the combination of these two contradictory feelings in him was perfect.
Alivia looked up at his deep and sharp eyes, and her breath hitched, "Hello, Mr. Lloyd, I'm Alivia."
There was much unease and restraint in her voice, which Bert caught on to. He glanced at her but didn't say much.
He took the seat across from Huston, leaving a vacant space next to him. Alivia, in her nervousness, didn't pay much attention and instinctively sat down next to him.
Evelyn watched the man and woman who walked in. The man was handsome and rugged, his face inscrutable. The woman, however, was visibly anxious.
Were they Ms. Graves and Mr. Harper that Lucas had mentioned?
Truthfully, they differed from her expectations. She thought they would be older, and that their child liked them because they were kind. But Bert didn't seem like a very warm person, even appearing cold.
"When did you return?"
The man across from her suddenly spoke. Startled, Evelyn came back to her senses, realizing her lapse, and quickly averted her gaze, "Three or four days ago."
"Have you seen Lucas before?"
"Yeah."
She dared not say more, fearing any missteps. Her nerves were extremely taut.
Under the table, Huston moved his hand slowly to the side and lightly rested it on her slightly cold hand. His eyes remained firmly on Bert, "Lucas mentioned that you've been taking care of him recently. I need to thank Mr. Harper and Miss Graves."
When Alivia heard her name mentioned, she choked on the words 'You're welcome.' But before she could respond, she heard Bert chuckle softly next to her, "There's no need for formalities, President Lloyd. I'm not taking care of Lucas out of any obligation. I just don't want him to be alone."All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
His words seemed ungrateful, but he actually wanted to dissociate himself from the situation and tell Huston that his actions weren't because of Evelyn, but because of Lucas.
He liked Evelyn, Alivia knew this. So as soon as his words fell, she couldn't help but glance over.
Such selflessness...
"I'll remember this favor, Mr. Harper. If there's anything you need in the future, don't hesitate to ask," Huston said, smiling politely.
The two men sat across from each other, understanding the situation without explicitly saying it while maintaining a cordial atmosphere. Alivia felt a bit uneasy, her hands on her lap fidgeting. Seeing that the two men fell silent, she hesitated before speaking, "Well..."
Three pairs of eyes turned to her, and she quickly lowered her head, her ears growing warm, "I heard that Lucas also came over, but I didn't see him."
