Chapter 46
Monalisa’s P. O. V
I watched as he walked past me and stride toward the only exit in the room. He stood there with both hands clasped behind his back, quietly for almost two minutes. I was curious to know who the dark jins were. At the same time, I did not trust him one bit because Dominic can be manipulative sometimes. However, there was a hint of sincerity in his eyes and voice when he told me that he wasn’t responsible for my family’s death. But I will believe him only if he proves that to me.
His shoulder fell softly, and he sighed. He veered around a little and glanced at me before turning his back on me again.
“Twenty-five years ago, The Dark Jins consisted of four best friends. They were the strongest mafia in Italy and Russia.” He poured himself a glass of vodka. “The laws themselves bowed to them; you can also say they held the laws in their own hands.” A soft chuckle escaped his lips. “They have ruined many families and lives. Unfortunately, yours was one of them.” He turned and faced me, staring at me from where he stood, and then he began striding towards me.
“One fateful night, your father asked his best friend, Tony, to help him with some money to buy pregnancy medication for your mother. I believe she was months pregnant. Little did he know that this was the beginning of his downfall.” He spoke as he walked around me.
My mind drifts back to thirteen years ago. I vividly remember how my mom used to warn my dad about his best friend. She never liked him at first sight, and she never missed an opportunity to demonstrate her negative attitude towards him. But my dad turned a deaf ear. I guess the bond they both share is more like brothers, which blinded him.
“Tony adamantly refused to help him, but instead chose to show your Dad how to make the money. Your dad was blinded by the love and trust he had for Tony, which made. him not to question him much and decide to follow his lead.” He sipped from his glass again. “Evil Tony introduced your dad to the Dark Jins. They gave your dad a large sum of money in exchange for his five years of service. They knew that your father was an undercover investigator, and they assigned him a mission. However, before that, they asked him to sign a contract.” He shook his head and said, “Your foolish father signed the contract without reading it. Never did he know that he was signing a contract with the Devils. An infinite contract that has no end.” He laughed out loud.
It was then that everything began to make sense to me. I could remember my mom asking my dad where he got such a huge amount of money because he had lost his job after being falsely accused of something he knew nothing about. But he told my mom it was a loan from the bank. So, he lied. My mom never believed him, which caused a big argument between them. But there is no doubt that our lives changed after that night, as my Dad became incredibly wealthy and we lacked nothing. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“But one day, your father suddenly got fed up with the whole mission and decided to back out. But he was given a condition: either hand over the clips he retrieved from his last mission or die. However, your father was indeed stubborn. No one knew what was in those clips, not even the JINS. But I strongly believe that clips hold a powerful weapon to destroy them. That was why they went after his family, just to break him down.”
My hand slowly reached up to my neck and touched the moon-shaped necklace that my dad had gifted me before his death. I still remember his words when he gave me this necklace. “Protect this moon with your life. When the time comes, let it shine.” That was what he said, but I never understood him. Now it all makes sense to me because that was the night he was kidnapped.
“So, they killed him.” I slowly muttered as the image of the unforgettable scenario replayed in my head, and fresh tears streamed down my cheek.
“They killed him, raped your pregnant mom, and killed her brother.”
“Who were you back then?” I shifted my gaze toward him.
He flashed me a half smile and said, “I was just their driver.”
“How did you protect me back then?” I asked out of curiosity.
“After the incident that occurred to your family, my superiors instructed me to eliminate you. But when I helped you into my car, you fainted, and I thought you were dead. I hurried back to inform my superiors about your demise, and he instructed me to personally handle your burial. But on the way, you woke up crying, begging me to save you and not to kill you.” He let out a chuckle, and for the first time in years, I noticed a flicker of pain in his eyes.
His voice began to break, “I took pity on you and saved you. When I brought you to my house, I noticed that you always had nightmares about your family every night. Even at such a young age, you promise to avenge their deaths. I knew how dangerous they could be if they found out that you were still alive. I had to fly you out of Russia just to protect you from them. I changed your name to Monalisa. I lied about the adoption papers because I never actually adopted you. I lied to you, claiming that I was the one who sent the JINS to kill your family. My intention was to prevent you from seeking revenge as you grew older, which led you to vow to kill me someday. I made you endure hardship to make it appear as if I were the culprit. I never wanted you to leave my side because I never wanted you to fall into the wrong hands or encounter them in the future. Because I know, your father’s only wish is for you to live.” He quickly wiped away the tears that streamed down his chin.
My mind was overwhelmed because I couldn’t believe that all these years, I had been harboring revenge towards the wrong person. At this moment, everything began to make sense to me. His strict rules, cold voice, and harsh treatment were all fake. So fucking fake. He did all of that to keep me alive. He deceived and lied to me all these years and took all the blame.
My gaze averted to Gardy’s lifeless body. She has already turned pale, with green veins visible all over her skin. I began to drag my feet as I stood where I had laid her. There was no doubt that Dominic had saved me, but at the same time, he had ruined Gardy’s life. He made her life a living hell and ultimately drove her to an early grave, leaving her son behind. No doubt, he was no different from the JINS that killed my family, as he just killed my second family. He must be punished.
I suddenly burst into laughter because everything still felt like a dream to me. I felt like someone should pinch me so hard to wake me up from this horrible nightmare. I was still trying to digest everything that had happened today when Idris’s face crossed my mind. My heart sank as I contemplated the task of informing this four-year-old boy that he had lost his mother. How will I fucking explain to him in a way that he will understand? How will I look him in the eyes and tell him that his Momma is gone, and she will never return?
The image of the first time I stepped into Gardy’s home clouded my mind. The scenarios displayed by the mother and son weakened me to my core.
“Momma, when I grow up, I’m going to take good care of you.” That was his promise to his mom. How can I look him in the eyes and tell him that his wishes will never come true? How can I break the news to him that his mother was taken away by his abusive father? Please tell me how.
“Who are the four Jins?” Those words rolled out of my lips as I sat down beside Gardy, with a heavy heart. Tears freely streamed down my cheeks at such a disheartening sight.
“Bobby Babayaga. San Diego. Tony Romo and Robert Pattinson. These are their names and photos. From years back up until this year.” He threw some pictures in front of me.
My hands clenched into a fist, “I will kill them all. All of them, including you, Dominic, because you killed her!” My eyes inadvertently glanced at the pictures in front of me.
I looked at the old pictures and their faces were still vivid in my mind, but the unfamiliar faces in these new pictures caught me by surprise, leaving me feeling disoriented. This was the exact photo frame I saw in Ex-Mob Bobby’s mansion. Are those the ones who mean they are responsible? Derek’s dad and his malevolent friends were responsible for the death of my family.
This can’t be true.
