Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen

Chapter 314

The assistant took another look, and to his horror, he realized it was actually a butcher's knife!

Panic-stricken, he frantically spun the steering wheel to make a U-turn!

The tires screeched as they left black streaks on the road. With a "squeal," the sports car bolted towards the exit of the neighborhood!

Egbert had gotten out of the car a good distance from home.

Gilbert and the assistant didn't dare to drive him any closer - it was too risky.

Egbert walked back slowly.

By the time he reached the front gate, Eileen's silhouette was gone from under the streetlight.

He arched an eyebrow, used his fingerprint to open the gate, and the next second...

Egbert saw, in the entryway, Eileen, with a sinister face, holding a butcher's knife in each hand, coldly staring at him.

After a moment, Egbert tried to soften his voice, gently asking, "Haven't gone to bed yet?"

Eileen raised both hands.

Then, she carelessly rubbed the blades of the butcher's knives against each other.

Instantly, the whole hall was filled with the grating sound of the weapons colliding.

Egbert took a couple of steps forward, and as he got closer to the girl, he carefully reached out and touched the back of her hand, saying, "It's dan..." He couldn't finish the word "dangerous."

Her wrist flicked, and the knife spun, its sharp point aiming at Egbert.

Egbert looked up at the girl opposite him.

Eileen eyed Egbert up and down, and after a moment, she withdrew the knives, her voice cold, "Where have you been?"

Egbert said, "Had something to take care of."

Eileen narrowed her eyes; she kept her gaze on Egbert for a while, then said, "Oh."

She lowered her head and continued grinding the knives.

Egbert sighed, took the knives from her hands, placed them on a nearby cab, then took her hand and explained, "Director Barton called me to discuss a new script. He's an old friend, I couldn't just blow him off."

Director Barton's name was, of course, well known to Eileen.

A godfather figure in the film industry, the man who directed "The Alley," which snagged an Oscar. Even Galen, the director of that movie, would only call himself a student in front of Barton.

Eileen frowned, "Didn't Barton retire?"

Egbert led Eileen to the living room, had her sit down, and then sat next to her. "The script was something he wanted to do a long time ago. I guess he felt it wasn't the right time then and shelved it. Now he wants to revisit it."

Eileen suddenly remembered. In her previous life, Barton did indeed make a comeback with a movie, and the gossip was that Egbert had been chosen for the lead role. But after two years of rumors, the movie never materialized, and it was said to be canceled without further news. Up until her death, Eileen never heard any more about that movie.

Considering the timeline, she first heard about this movie in her past life around now?

Eileen stared at Egbert again. Seeing that he didn't seem to be lying, she hummed dismissively, pulled her hand away, and started towards the stairs. Watching her go, Egbert sighed and followed her.

Halfway up the stairs, Egbert suddenly asked, "Waiting up for me, were you worried?"

Eileen didn't even bother with a glance, heading straight to her room. Only at the door did she turn to look at Egbert, "It's 4:30 AM. That's half a night away - you lose ten points!"

With a "bang," she slammed the door shut!

Standing in the hallway, looking at the closed door, Egbert was silent. After a long while, his deep eyes softened with warmth.

The next day, as Eileen came downstairs for breakfast, she overheard the housekeeper muttering in confusion, "Why is my carving knife on top of the shoe cab?"

Feeling guilty, Eileen scratched her face and kept quiet.

The housekeeper saw her come down and didn't dwell on the knife's whereabouts, instead calling out, "Ms. Lopez, breakfast is ready."

"Sure," Eileen quickly replied, hurrying to the dining room.

As soon as Eileen sat down, Egbert also came downstairs.

After serving breakfast, the housekeeper casually mentioned, "Mr. Egbert, your mother called this morning. She wants you to call her back when you wake up; she has something important to discuss."

Something important? Egbert paused, took out his phone, and made a long-distance call.

A few minutes later, Egbert hung up and turned to Eileen, "Your second brother is coming home today."novelbin

Eileen blinked in surprise, "My brother?"

It was the rare day when Carlson Lopez would come home from the military base. On such occasions, the Lopez family would gather for a meal. After all, Carlson was a soldier who could be called away at any moment.

They had wanted to invite Eileen too but were hesitant, thinking she might feel uncomfortable. In the end, it was Josephine Patton who broached the subject.

Upon hearing this, Eileen pursed her lips.

After breakfast, she went upstairs. When she came down again, she was fully dressed.

Egbert glanced at her, touched her hair as he passed by, and then went upstairs himself.

Twenty minutes later, they set off together.

Eileen was nervous in the car.

"I haven't met him yet," she said.

Egbert glanced at her.

"What? What is it? Is there something weird about me?" Eileen immediately inquired.

After a moment of silence, Egbert said calmly, "No, it's just that you haven't asked about your father either. Don't you ever wonder?"

Eileen was stunned. Oh, right, she supposedly had a biological father too...

Two hours later, they arrived at the grand Lopez estate.

The Reeds, due to Albert Reed's career choices, opted for a more understated home.

But the Lopez clan, they were loaded, and had quite the extensive family tree to top it all off. So when Eileen caught sight of the Lopez's sprawling four-story mansion with its enchanting gardens, she was gobsmacked!

Stepping out of the car, Egbert reached for Eileen's hand to lead her inside.

Eileen quickly withdrew her hand, glancing around furtively, and whispered, "What if someone sees us?"

Egbert just sighed silently and proceeded to unlock the gate with a code.

Eileen followed Egbert cautiously towards the main house. Upon reaching, they found the front door ajar, with Simon holding a teary-eyed Isabel, waiting for them.

The moment Isabel saw Eileen, she sprinted over. With her little nose all red, she buried her face in Eileen's embrace and whimpered, "Auntie Eileen."

Eileen lifted the girl into her arms and asked, "What happened, sweetheart?"

Isabel extended her finger to show a band-aid wrapped around it.

Simon explained, "Isabel wanted to prepare a fruit platter for your visit, but she cut her finger in the process."

Eileen couldn't resist giving Isabel a peck on the cheek right then and there!

Egbert, casting a sideways glance at Isabel, asked with a hint of disbelief, "You know how to cut fruit?"

Isabel shot back a look at Mr. Reed and deadpanned, "Would I have cut myself if I knew how?"
