Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen



The touch was unmistakably familiar! Almost instantly, Eileen swiveled her head to look.

And there he was, as expected, Egbert! Eileen's eyes widened in shock.

"OMG! OMG! OMG!!!"

The scene erupted. To the right were the media and fans, their screams and calls blanketing the night sky, deafening.

Eileen, bewildered, stared at the suddenly appeared Egbert, blurting out, "What are you doing here!"

Egbert took her hand gently, guiding her arm through his as they continued forward, his voice calm, "I'm presenting an award." Eileen didn't buy it, "Stop kidding! What kind of awards show could get someone of your stature to present?"

He turned his head slightly, coming closer to whisper in her ear, "We'll talk inside."

The fans went wild, screams echoing!

Meanwhile, on the live stream, the chat was going crazy.

"The E&E couple strutting down the red carpet" shot up the trending list like a rocket, seizing the number one spot in no time.

In the car, Ophelia was watching the live stream.

Her expression was stone-cold, her hand trembling as it reached into her purse, fumbling for her emergency nitroglycerin tablets. Twisting the cap off, she popped two pills into her mouth, the bitter taste somehow calming her nerves.

After signing autographs, Eileen and Egbert made their way inside.

The moment they were away from the cameras, Eileen found a secluded corridor to confront Egbert, "What are you doing?"

Egbert didn't answer. Instead, he was inspecting Eileen's dress for the evening.

Her bare shoulders were exposed, her hair was up, revealing her chest and neck.

Narrowing his eyes, he didn't like what he saw, "Who picked out this dress?"

Eileen glanced at her attire and then back at him defiantly, "Stop changing the subject! We're talking about you showing up here!"

He casually shrugged, "It's work."

Eileen scoffed, "Why didn't you mention it before?"

"It was a last-minute thing," he replied nonchalantly.

Just then, some staff members passed by. Eileen switched topics instantly, "You've been working hard, Mr. Reed. Thanks for helping me out. I would've been lost without you."

Egbert watched her, speechless.

After the staff had gone, Eileen was back on the offensive, "When we get home, you're explaining everything!"

With that, she flounced toward the auditorium.

But Egbert stopped her again. Turning to him irritably, she demanded, "What now?"

He looked at her for a moment before reaching out and unhooking the hair tie hidden in her locks. Her meticulously done hair tumbled down around her shoulders.

Stunned, Eileen stared at Egbert, at a loss for words.

He fiddled with her hair, covering her exposed skin, and reluctantly said, "Let's go in."

Looking at her hair, she nearly had a heart attack.

"Do you have any idea how much it costs to style this hair?!"

Egbert pocketed her hair tie, preventing her from putting it back up, and asked flatly, "Aren't we going in?"

Grinding her teeth, Eileen pointed a finger at Egbert, "You are unbelievable!"

With that, she stormed off in her heels toward the auditorium!

Inside, Eileen quickly found the cast and crew of "Fancy Island."

Simon Lopez, the supporting actors, the director, and the writer were all there.

Simon waved her over, "Ms. Lopez, over here!"

Eileen sat down next to Simon, still fuming. The supporting actors greeted her with a smile, Eileen returned the greeting through gritted teeth. Lenwood, puzzled, asked, "What's with you? You come in last looking like you're on the warpath. Who ticked you off?"

Eileen snapped, "Boyfriend!"

The room fell silent.

Simon, recovering from the shock, asked tentatively, "...Who?"

Eileen, realizing her slip-up, revised her statement, "I meant, a friend."

The place was crowded and noisy.

Simon, still a bit unsure if he heard right, eyed Eileen suspiciously.

The awards ceremony began shortly after, with the host making the opening remarks.

The first few awards were minor ones, like Best Editing, Best Music, and so on.

"Fancy Island" missed several early awards but finally snagged Best Screenplay.

Once they had won Best Screenplay, the "Fancy Island" crew clapped so hard their hands turned red! They had all come, and it would have been embarrassing to leave empty-handed!

With their honor intact, Eileen took advantage of the dim lighting to switch seats with Simon and started chatting with Lenwood.

Lenwood, ever carefree, engaged in the conversation with Eileen, ignoring the ongoing event.

They chatted away for an hour before Eileen excused herself to talk to the writer.

As Lenwood turned back around, he saw Eileen collapsed in her chair, her head lolled to the side, sleeping like the dead.

Lenwood was shocked for a second. Shaking his head with a wry smile, Lenwood chose not to wake her. Instead, he borrowed a shawl from the supporting actress and gently draped it over Eileen's legs to keep her from catching a chill.

Unaware of how long she had been asleep, Eileen was eventually nudged awake by Simon.

Stretching and yawning, Eileen assumed the event had wrapped up. "Can we head out now?" she asked groggily.

The auditorium was silent as a tomb at that moment. Something felt off to Eileen. Rubbing her eyes, she glanced around and noticed a bright spotlight beaming down upon her. All eyes in the auditorium-front, back, left, and right-were fixed on her.

Completely bewildered, Eileen's gaze drifted forward.

The giant screen on stage was displaying her face, right in the center, and Egbert, with his deep-set eyes, was also standing there, looking straight at her.

Confused, Eileen shrank back and whispered to Simon, "What's going on?"

Simon let out a sigh and finally managed to say, "Ms. Lopez, you've won Best Actress. They're calling you up to accept the award."

"What?" Eileen's face turned from shock to disbelief. She'd won Best Actress?

At that moment, Egbert picked up the microphone and said with a deep, resonant voice, "Are you that tired? I told you to get some sleep last night, but you wouldn't listen."
