Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen

Chapter 306

Everyone were dumbstruck!

Sylvia felt her world spinning, her head heavy, and she was on the brink of fainting.

Quick-witted Eileen immediately nudged Egbert and improvised, "Right! Mr. Reed's loaded, he doesn't care for these little freebies. Send them my way, send them all to me, even his share!"

Everyone paused. Is that what this is about?

Egbert began, "We..."

Eileen whipped around with a dangerous glare, laser-like, searing into Egbert's very being!

Egbert's gaze deepened, and he ultimately revised his stance, saying coolly, "Hmm."

The Assistant Director breathed a sigh of relief.

The other guests also felt this explanation was acceptable.

Sylvia breathed a sigh of relief

On the way to the airport, Eileen and Sylvia shared a car.

All along the drive, Sylvia kept coaching Eileen, brainwashing her repeatedly, "You've got to prioritize your career! Men will only slow you down. Don't let them bewitch you, especially the handsome ones they're all sirens!"

Eileen glanced cautiously at Sylvia and ventured, "What if, just if, someday I... find someone I like..."

Sylvia immediately snapped viciously, "You don't need a man in your life!"

For some reason, Eileen couldn't fathom why each of her scarce fans, without exception, was a bit off-kilter.

By the time Eileen and Egbert got back to the Capital, including flight and drive time, it was past ten at night.

Once inside, Rolls, who had arrived home earlier, was meowing and scrambling up to them, pawing at Eileen's pant leg for a cuddle.

Eileen scooped up the little feline, rubbing its head affectionately.

Meanwhile, from the kitchen, the housekeeper emerged with a small bowl and upon seeing their return, cheerfully said, "You're back! Thought you wouldn't make it until midnight."

Eileen spotted the bowl in the housekeeper's hands, promptly thrust Rolls into Egbert's arms, and sprang forward, excitedly inquiring, "What's that tasty treat? I wanna try it!"

The housekeeper set the bowl on the floor, chuckling, "That's cat food, dear, not for you."

Then, looking earnestly at Eileen's face, she added with concern, "Oh, poor thing, you've lost so much weight in just half a month. Has the young master not been feeding you?"

Eileen nearly died laughing, ratting Egbert out, "He can't cook, everything he makes tastes awful."

Egbert, still holding the cat, was speechless.

The housekeeper couldn't help but lament, "Come on, into the kitchen with you. I'll make something delicious. What would you like?"

Eileen eagerly followed the housekeeper into the kitchen in search of scrumptious treats.

A short while later, the housekeeper had prepared five dishes and a soup to ensure Eileen ate her fill!

As Eileen sat at the dining table, she looked across at Egbert, who was also eating, and said, "You're lucky to be dining on these dishes, all thanks to me."

Egbert looked surprised, his deep eyes fixating on her.

"You don't believe me? If you were alone, the housekeeper would've just made you something simple. But look at this feast - abalone in oyster sauce, chicken mushroom soup... you're dining like this because she likes me. You're riding my coattails."

Egbert chuckled and replied good-naturedly, "Then should I thank you, Ms. Lopez?"

Eileen's eyes darted slyly as she said, "No need, no need, but you owe me a favor now, and you've got to pay up."

Realizing her implication, Egbert set his fork down, leaned back in his chair, and said evenly, "Out with it. What is it?"

Eileen glanced at the housekeeper in the kitchen to ensure they weren't being overheard and whispered, "Well, could you... not tell anyone we're dating?"

Egbert's brow furrowed, his face darkening instantly.

Eileen quickly added, "In return, I might be willing to give you some bonus points."

Egbert narrowed his eyes and said coldly, "Why?"

Eileen fidgeted and mumbled, "Well, you're still under evaluation... Besides, you're not exactly Mr. Popular. My family doesn't like you, my agent doesn't like you, even my fans don't like you. If they found out, there would be endless trouble."

Egbert's expression was stormy, his displeasure evident.

Eileen peeked back at the kitchen again. Seeing the housekeeper still occupied, she stood up, leaned across the table towards Egbert, and beckoned, "Come closer, I need to tell you something."novelbin

Reluctantly, Egbert leaned in a fraction.

Instantly, Eileen planted a quick kiss on his cheek and then promptly sat back down.

With that, a wave of joy instantly washed over Egbert. Across the dining table, the gloom on Egbert's face lifted visibly, his demeanor softening. Eileen kept her head down, shoveling rice without glancing at Egbert's face.

After dinner, Eileen settled into the living room to catch up on the news.

A while later, the housekeeper brought over a crystal ball, her expression merry as she approached, "Ms. Lopez, take a look at this crystal ball, is it pretty?"

Eileen glanced at it and replied, "It's beautiful."

The housekeeper handed it to her, saying, "If you like it, take it to your room for good luck."

Eileen, puzzled: "For me?"

The housekeeper glanced at Egbert on the balcony, who was watering plants, and giggled, "The lady brought it home. She said it brings good fortune when kept indoors."

"Good fortune, huh?" Eileen took the crystal ball, pondering whether just having it would lead to wealth.

Eileen gazed at the crystal ball resting on the coffee table, her eyes narrowing as she deciphered the tiny inscription at its base "Invoke your deepest desires."

Eileen was speechless.

With a huff, she set the orb back onto the table, mumbling, "I don't want this thing."

Just then, Egbert strolled in, carrying a pitcher of iced tea. He noticed the crystal ball, then Eileen, who was fiddling with her fingers, looking rather vexed.

Egbert sauntered over, picked up the orb, and easily spotted the inscription: "Deepest desires, huh?"

The housekeeper casually inquired, "Mr. Egbert, what is your deepest desire?"

Egbert glanced at Eileen, a sly smile crossing his face. "My desires? Can't share them, I'm afraid. Might border on criminal," he joked.
