Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen

Chapter 282

[What the...?]

[NO WAY!!!]

[Why the heck can Eileen's fingerprint unlock Egbert's phone???]

[That can't be Egbert's phone, right?]

[It's totally his phone, he just took it out of his pocket!]

[Oh my gosh, this is... what the...]

- [Hold up, ladies, I did some digging and came back. There's a buzz that Romantic Revelations is one of those celebrity faux marriage shows, so maybe this is all just for the show?]

[Yeah, probably just hyping up the program...]

- [Oh, it's a publicity stunt. You nearly gave me a heart attack! I'm a die-hard fan here!]

Eileen was engrossed in scrolling through Egbert's contacts on his phone, oblivious to the flurry of comments.

Egbert, however, saw the comments and frowned. Then, suddenly, he looked at Eileen's lips and asked, "What happened here?"

Eileen, still focused on the phone, replied, "Where?"

"Right here." Egbert reached out, his warm fingers gently holding Eileen's chin, his thumb briefly grazing her lips.

Eileen paused, taken aback.

Comments exploded across the screen.

[WHAT THE...!!!]

[OMGGGG!!!]

[Is this 'warming up' for the show too???]

Eileen looked at Egbert in confusion, not understanding why he would do that!

Egbert lifted her chin higher and studied her lips closely before saying, "It's a bit swollen."

Swollen? She hadn't noticed.

Egbert furrowed his brow, "Did I bite too hard?"

Eileen was speechless.

Everyone else went silent. And Sylvia almost fainted.

[Did I just hear that right?]

[Are you officially announcing it now, for crying out loud!!!]

[It's just a warm-up, ladies, just a promo! Don't fall for it!]

[Who cares if it's a warm-up, I ship E&E, I'm so in for this fresh scoop!]

Chaos reigned in the live stream once again.

The assistant director, nearly petrified, rushed to grab the phone. Seeing the bombardment of comments, he knew they were on the brink.

He quickly positioned himself in front of the camera and explained, "It's not what you think. It's for the show. Both teachers here are professionals with excellent acting skills. The kissing scene was very realistic. Anyway, everything will be clear when Romantic Revelations airs!"

Having said that, and fearing further complications, he gestured to the cameraperson and addressed the viewers, "Thanks for all your concern for our team. It's time to sign off. Goodbye!"

With that, he cut the live feed.

Eileen had caught on to Egbert's mischievous intent by now.

Grinding her teeth, she shoved his phone back into his chest and kicked him in the leg. He didn't dodge or react.

Eileen's kick, initially with full force, softened when she saw he wasn't avoiding it. In the end, it was a light tap followed by a glare before she turned to go upstairs.novelbin

But as she turned, she came face-to-face with Sylvia's haunting, resentful gaze.

Eileen was helpless. Caught off guard, she pointed behind her and shifted the blame, "He did it. Go talk to him."

Sylvia cast a weighty glance at Egbert, who remained nonchalant. The next moment, she grabbed her hair and let out a meltdown scream.

Hobson rushed over to cover her mouth, reminding her they were in public and attracting stares.

Eventually, everyone retreated to their rooms to rest.

When the heavy rain finally stopped at four in the afternoon and the airport announced that flights were resuming, they all headed out. However, Aurora was nowhere to be seen when it came time to board.

Calvert inquired with the director and returned with a resigned look, "She paid to upgrade to first class. She won't be flying with us." Eileen scoffed.

Then Calvert looked at Eileen and Egbert and said seriously, "I want to apologize on Aurora's behalf, regardless of whether you accept it or not. She was wrong to betray Mr. Reed and then Ms. Lopez. I don't know how she ended up like this. When I first met her, she really wasn't like this." Silence fell over the group.

Eileen, though, fixed her gaze on Egbert and suddenly asked, "Mr. Reed, was Aurora like this when you first met her?"

Egbert glanced at Eileen and fell silent.

Sylvia, on the edge of her patience, grumbled, "Does it take that long to remember?"

After a moment, Egbert replied, "I don't remember."

Eileen laughed coldly, "Really? You've forgotten?"

Egbert nodded earnestly, "Completely. It's been too long."

With that, Eileen strode off toward the airport restroom.

As soon as she left, Hobson exhaled in relief, patting his chest, "That was close. I thought you were going to slip up. Good thing you gave the right answer!"

Egbert nodded, still feeling the close call.

Sylvia was confused, "What do you mean?"

Hobson explained, "It was a trick question. No matter how Mr. Reed answered-whether 'Aurora was always like this' or 'Aurora wasn't like this'-he'd be wrong because acknowledging either would mean he remembered what she was like before. That would've been the end for him. So the correct answer is 'I don't remember anything,' 'I have no impression of that woman,' 'I've almost forgotten her name.' Any of those answers would've been correct. My dad fell for this once, and let me tell you, the next five years were hell for him. He couldn't even buy a pack of cigarettes without borrowing money from me!"

Calvert, listening on the side, was taken aback, then nodded solemnly, "Another life-saving piece of knowledge noted."

Sylvia rolled her eyes. Men are so cunning.

At that moment, the director strolled over and called out, "Mr. Reed, can you come here for a sec? There's something we need to take care of before boarding. Hey, where's Ms. Lopez?"

Egbert replied, "Bathroom."

By the time Eileen emerged from the restroom, she saw the director in a corner, fine-tuning Egbert's position with a camera set up before them.

And off to the side, was that a slumped figure on the ground, looking like a rather dejected assistant director?

Spotting her, the director shouted, "Ms. Lopez, come over here, please."

Eileen walked over.

The producer positioned Eileen next to Egbert and then scurried off to have a quick word with the cameraman. Turning back to them, he announced, "It's nothing major. Remember how Mr. Reed accidentally let it slip during the live stream that he kissed you, Ms. Lopez? The assistant director, worried about the audience's reaction in the chat, claimed it was all part of the show. But we're a meticulous crew! We can't leave a lie hanging. To show our viewers that the kiss was indeed a planned part of the show, we need you two to reshoot a kiss scene before we leave Frostsglow. We'll edit it into the variety show later. Come on, let's get to it! Put some heart into it! Don't hold back!"

Eileen's mouth fell open slightly, listening to the director's rapid-fire spiel as if he were speaking in riddles.

Egbert, on the other hand, adapted quickly. With a calm demeanor, he turned to face her, lifted her chin gently with his hand, leaned in close, and with a warm smile said, "Here we go, Ms. Lopez. Close your eyes."
