Chapter 1480
Ben closed his phone, placing it aside but forgetting to remove his earphones.
When Mrs. Lucas came over, she immediately noticed. They clearly hadn't been talking, or at best, Summer had been doing all the talking while Ben wore his earphones to tune her out.
She was fuming inside, but with Summer playing along so diplomatically, Mrs. Lucas couldn't embarrass her.
"As long as you two enjoyed the conversation," she said, casting a subtle glance toward Summer. "Why don't you stay the night, dear? We have plenty of rooms, and I can prepare one for you right next to Ben's."
Though Mrs. Lucas casually suggested any room would do, she had already made up her mind to set Summer up in the room right next to Ben's.
After all, she had always envisioned it as her future daughter-in-law's room. And with them staying so close, there'd be plenty of chances for those "accidental" encounters she was hoping for.
Ben's immediate reaction was to decline, but Summer beat him to it. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Lucas, but I think I'd better head home tonight. My parents are quite strict with curfews, even at my age!"
"You're absolutely right," Mrs. Lucas said, clearly impressed. "I didn't consider that." To her, Summer had all the grace and restraint that a respectable family's daughter should have, unlike those from lesser backgrounds who might use any means to climb the social ladder.
Not like someone who would jump into bed with a man at a young age and even go so far as to secretly have a child! And to top it off, the child was sick. Just a whole mess of issues stacked up! Mrs. Lucas thought with disdain, shaking her head.
"Well, I'll be heading out then. I'll come by to visit again soon, Mrs. Lucas," Summer said with a polite farewell.
Mrs. Lucas quickly nudged Ben to escort her. Once Summer got into her family's car, Ben immediately turned back toward the house.
But instead of heading inside, he lingered in the garden to listen to all of Jamie's voice messages. In that moment, he felt an overwhelming pull to return to Jamie.
But he knew his mother was waiting,
so he went back inside. With just the two of them at home now, Mrs. Lucas wasted no time getting to the point. "You're not getting any younger, Ben. It's time you took
marriage seriously. For yeal nee

haven't interfered with your social life. But that ends now. This isn't a discussion, it's a decision. You'll marry Summer in three months." Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
"Just like that? With a few words, you're deciding my entire future? I won't agree, Ben said firmly. Right now, marriage was the last thing he wanted. To him, a family, wife, and kids
were nothing but shackles, and he had no desire to tie himself down so soon.
But to Mrs. Lucas, his outright refusal of Summer could only mean that his heart was still hung up on Jamie.
Mrs. Lucas cut straight to the point, "You still love that woman, Jamie, don't you? Even after she betrayed you, she still in your heart? When did my son become so spineless? That woman's got you all twisted up! Sure, she's got some looks, but not enough to be worth all this!"
