Chapter 37- I Won't Believe It!
Sabrina's POV
Aiden?
"Aiden?" I ask out loud this time, Evan sending a smile my way.
"Well, who else? He is the only one carrying enough hatred to see this through... and besides, he can't die." Evan says, walking out and leaving us to digest his words.
"I knew it! I could smell him a mile off!" Josey goes, almost too excited about being right. Forgetting that I'm in the room and I just marked this man to be mine for eternity.
This is the man that was made for me and me alone. His entire being was meant to compliment mine, his soul connects only with mine.
Anthony jabbing her with his elbow, almost pushing her over. Quickly realizing how foul her words were, she looks at me sheepishly. "Sorry." She says, trying to avoid my burning gaze.
"I don't believe it." I say, surprising my family as I hear my mother gasp.
"Why would Evan lie? He's lost everything!" My mother asks.
"Exactly why he would lie. He's got nothing else to lose and saying that name rattled the cage, enough to send us over. I won't believe it." I say, shaking my head no.
"Sabrina, come on. It all makes sense. Your exes alone were attacked, not mine or we weren't. Adrastos was poisoned, yes he is my nephew but he is your son and we all know male wolves don't play step daddy all too well." Josey says to me, remaining quiet, I let her go on.
"Also, I've never seen him with Drastos. I have never heard him talk about him. He leaves this house for hours and comes back as if he's got a job in the mines. Do I need to remind you that your man has no job? where does he go? What is he doing? No come on Sabrina. Yes, you carry his mark but you can't be this stupid." Josey says to me and I growl, making her take a few steps back.
"I refuse to believe it and I know all you would do the same if it was your mate that was mentioned. Don't expect me to think differently. Why would I want to believe that my mate, my true mate would want to harm my son? Knowing that we would have to spend all of our lives together, lives where we can't even die and he does that to me? I refuse to believe that jealousy drove him to the point of no return. No return being the killing of my son or anyone for that matter. Why would he want my child to grow up fatherless? I can understand Xander but Percy? MAX? Come on." I say, tears burning my eyes as they threaten to fall.
I could see the pitiful looks each of my family members was wearing. They all looked at me with such sadness and a little worry, worry for me and my sanity.
"I love that man and there is no way in hell our relationship would be shattered like this. He is my true mate and that means something. Evan is playing dirty and you're all playing right in to his hands." I say, walking out on them and stomping away to my bedroom.
I let the tears fall.
Allowing them to fall this time.... to do as they please, staining my face because even though I refuse to believe what Evan said, it still wrecked me. Josey's words kept ringing in my ears, speaking nothing but the truth but I just can't believe it to be him.
It can never be.
Why would it be true? Aiden is not capable of such and he has said it before, he would never choose such a cowardly way to take someone out. "Hey, don't listen to Josey. I don't think it's Aiden anyway." Cj comes running to me.
"I refuse to allow myself to believe it. You don't believe it... that's the difference. All fingers point to him, his unknown whereabouts and obvious hate of Xander. Killing my other mates was just a means to an end, I guess cutting the connection but Adrastos? I can't believe that I'm mated to a man so heartless. There is just no way." I say, quickly remembering how I heartlessly murdered his father and brother in front of everyone.
"I'm not here like Josey, so I would not know how he is with Drastos but if he intends on being with you, there is just no way he would do that to you." Cj says to me.
We continue to walk in silence, my heart so heavy from all of this pain. Pain from losing Percy and all of this! just want Xander to get better so that I can focus on avenging all of them but mostly my son.
"Everyone seems to forget the hold a mate bond has on each and every one of us. Aiden may think of killing Xander or even Max but the hold you have on him would never allow him to go through with it." He says and I get an idea.
Kissing CJ's forehead, I run off back to earth. Why didn't I think of it sooner? I forced them together and maybe that wasn't such a great idea but it will prove to be useful right now.
Xander may choose to fight the mate bond, refusing her but he needs her right now and this is the only way to save him.
"Here to gloat?" She asks me.
"No, I'm here to fetch you because I need you to save someone dear to me." I say, catching Allison off guard.
"Save who?" She asks and I wonder just how much time was Xander spending with this poor girl. Did I set them up for failure?
How can she not feel the distance? His health?
Was I selfishly throwing him in to her arms without thinking of either one, just wanting to rid myself of the guilt. The guilt of having a true mate and actually wanting to be with him?
"Xander was poisoned. I removed the poison but I was too late.... it attacked his organs and I'm afraid he isn't getting any better." I say.
Her demeanor changes quickly at the mention of Xander. The effect he has on her clear as day but her face falling when I mention his health. "What good will I do? He has made it pretty clear where he wants me and it is nowhere near him." She tells me.
"You are his mate. Whether he wants you around or not, his life depends on you and right now, I need you to save his life." I say, hoping I sound convincing enough.
Allison gets to her feet, stretching her limbs before nodding her head at me.
"Fine. I will help, because he is my
mate and my wolf wants me to.
After he is healed, you will bring me back here. This is where he ordered me to be and this is where I'll stay until he says otherwise." She says to me.
Her words shock me.
UMS
This was not the Xander I know. He would never treat me this way and I was his chosen mate, yet here is his mate and he orders her around like a servant. Did I really know Xander?
Or did he only show me the good parts about him? Did I choose to only see the good side?
Just how badly did I screw up pairing this poor girl with him?
I grab her hand and take us back to my realm, landing in Xander's room. The room is heavily guarded by the two wolves I gifted CJ, this time protecting the man I once loved.
Allison runs to Xander's bed, tears falling as she realizes just how bad the situation is.
"Please stay by his side. That's all he needs, the mate bond will do the rest." I say, leaving them alone and going back to my family.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
